Christianskirkjan (Christian's Church) is a modern church building in Klaksvík, the second-largest town in the Faroe Islands. It was consecrated in 1963. The architect was Peter Koch, a Dane. Aesthetically, it is one of the islands’ most notable modern buildings in the country. At the time of construction, the church in Klaksvík awoke much interest in creating a culturally historic foundation for a new style of Faroese architecture in that, among other things, it used native building materials, such as basalt and lumber.

Christianskirkjan is the exceptionally beautiful church in Klaksvík. The church is dedicated to the memory of the Faroese fishermen who died at sea during the Second World War and that the church was built in memory of the Danish king Christian the Tenth (1870-1947). The roof construction is the same as in the Faroese smokehouses (kitchens) and village churches. This roof construction proves to be particularly suitable for church buildings, as there is better acoustics in this church than in any other of similar size. The large church room gets its special touch from the all-dominating altarpiece. Under the roof beams hangs a Faroese boat - áttamannafar -, a boat for 8 rowers. This is the last boat built for the rectory in Viðareiði

This Lutheran church was built in the 1960's. It is a must see whilst in Klaksvik. Some of its most distinct features include a full size Faroese open fishing boat, as a tribute to Faroese fishermen. It also has an outstanding altarpiece, depicting the invitation to the great banquet. Finally we would recommend spending some time to take in the churches newest art work, made by local artist Edward Fuglø. The work presents the "Life of Christ" carved and painted on wooden panels.

The church in Klaksvík is beautiful! It is known for it's architecture inspired by the viking halls. It has a boat hanging under the ceiling. The boat has been used to transport the priest around the islands, before we had all these beautiful roads and tunnels. The alter painting is beautiful and showws the parable about the Great Banquet. If you visit the church make sure to visit the basement, it has a series calles "Jesus from Nazareth" and is made by a local artist, Edward Fuglø.
