When in Klaksvík… 🌱

Klaksvík is the second largest city in the Faroe Islands. Located in unbelievable settings on Borðoy island, the community is very much anchored in its fishing culture. You can enjoy a great view of Kunoyarnakki from Klaksvík. The nature attraction Klakkur is perched on the mountain ridge above Klaksvík. The ferry to the popular Kalsoy island depart from the harbour in Klaksvík. The ferry SAM sails between Klaksvík and Syðradalur on Kalsoy island. The Norðoyartunnilin sub-sea tunnel connects Borðoy island to the island Eysturoy. When you drive out of the tunnel from Eysturoy to Borðoy, you will enter Klaksvík straight away. You will also pass Klaksvík when heading to the islands Kunoy and Viðoy. These two islands are linked to Borðoy island with embankments. There is a hospital in Klaksvík as well as a post office, pharmacy, and other services. There are also a couple of cafés in the town and restaurants too. Just a stone’s throw from the football pitch in centrum lies the indoor swimming pool in Klaksvík. The swimming bath is family friendly with funny activities for children and parents as well as there are both a in- and outdoor wellness area with steamsauna, infrared sauna, jazucci and a regular sauna. Most companies in Klaksvík are linked to the ocean. You will see lots of vessels along the harbour when in the city. Christianskirkjan is the exceptionally beautiful church in Klaksvík. The church is dedicated to the memory of the Faroese fishermen who died at sea during the Second World War and that the church was built in memory of the Danish king Christian the Tenth (1870-1947). The roof construction is the same as in the Faroese smokehouses (kitchens) and village churches. This roof construction proves to be particularly suitable for church buildings, as there is better acoustics in this church than in any other of similar size. The large church room gets its special touch from the all-dominating altarpiece. Under the roof beams hangs a Faroese boat - áttamannafar -, a boat for 8 rowers. This is the last boat built for the rectory in Viðareiði

Viðarlundin úti í Grøv" is a beautiful little park situated only a 20 minutes walk from the apartment. This is also one of the few places on the archipelago where there are trees. A small river runs through the park with little bridges crossing it and during sommertime you can find children with their families having fun in the river. There are two roads leading to the park. I will recommend you to take the "old road" as we call it in Klaksvík. The old road is not open for cars and here you are most likely to mingle with locals walking their dogs.
