Best snorkeling this side of the island & at low tide, on the far end of the beach, you will find many, sometimes dozens of Hawaiian Green sea turtles lounging in the tidal pools. Be warned, the fine for touching or bothering them is hefty, but this is about as close as you'll ever get. You will find them swimming in the reef too sometimes. If you are lucky (going early in the morning helps with that luck), you will find families of the endemic (and endangered) Ne Ne geese wandering the tide pools (and other native and introduced ducks and waterfowl).

See green sea turtles, swim and snorkel at an array of black sand beach parks on the drive past Hilo Harbor. There is ongoing road construction that may detour but it will bring you back to the road to the beaches

SNORKELING: Hilo "Richardson Park" is the nearest Snorkel Spot on our side. ...All our close Snorkeling/swimming spots are gone since the 2018 lava flow... Snorkeling gear is in that silver box in the carport. You welcome to use it :) Beach Park opening hours: 7:30 am - 7:30 pm

A great place to see and swim with sea turtles. Note: Do not intentionally touch turtles as it can cause them stress and its against local law.
