This Wat holds the mummified monk's body on display. Search "Wat Khunaram" and read up on the history. Well worth a visit on the way to/from Lamai area. Drive north up to main ring road at Na Muang - go right and you will see the Wat on the rt side before you get to Hua Thanon and Lamai. (opposite the Wat you will see a small road with signs that takes you up the mountain to Peak Eye View, Magic Garden etc)

When you're in the south of the island stop by to see this temple and the famous mummified monk! Drop by to Chai's Cuisine & Farm for a meal or fruit shake afterwards, he's just down the road

Wat Khunaram is the last residence of Koh Samui’s Mummified Monk. It is an unusual sight; a unique insight into Buddhist and Thai culture. The monk Luong Pordaeng died in 1973 in a seated meditative position and ever since his body has been on display in an upright glass case at the temple. Aside from the Mummified Monk, Wat Khunaram is a fairly typical Buddhist temple, where local people come to make merit and pray daily. Amulets and other Buddhist artefacts may be bought, and visitors are welcome to join or observe the daily rituals Wat Khunaram is on Route 4169 (the ring road) between Na Muang waterfalls and Hua Thanon, 13 kilometres south-east of Nathon Pier and about six kilometres west of Lamai Beach.

Luong Por Daeng was a highly respected monk who devoted the latter part of his life to monkhood. He was renowned for his meditation practice and also predicted his own death in 1973 when he was 79 years old. Today, he can still be seen in the exact same meditative position he was in when he passed away.
