From flat, run or bike south along the canal, pass Limehouse basin, follow the Thames path west and soon you will come upon this large and peaceful basin. There is a sailing club that takes beginners out to the basil, I have done it and it was great fun.
Stroll around Shadwell Basin to watch the canoe lessons with Canary Wharf in the distance. This was once part of the Dockland's beating heart of river commerce but is now a beautifully quiet hidden gem! On hot days join the hundreds of people who ignore the warning to swim, dive or slackline across the water!
Today Shadwell Basin is one of the most significant bodies of water surviving from the historical London Docks. It is situated on the north side of the river Thames east (downstream) of the Tower of London and Tower Bridge and west (upstream) of Limehouse.
