日本三名城の1つとも言われる熊本県のシンボルです。市街地にあるのでアクセスも抜群。約400年の歴史があります。本丸御殿が2008年に復活して以来、年間来場者数は全国でもトップクラス。「おもてなし武将隊」と一緒に熊本城をバックにした写真を取れば、気分はまさに江戸時代です。 天守閣はもちろん、「武者返し」と言われる石垣も見どころですよ。桜の時期も美しいので、春の観光もオススメです。 現存の櫓11棟・門1棟・塀1棟は国の重要文化財に、城跡は国の特別史跡として指定されているスポットです。肥後熊本藩初代藩主の加藤清正が安土桃山時代末期から江戸時代初期にかけて築城したと言われています.
