Nature Walks with Llamas
Join us and our llamas for a 2-mile nature walk and explore the trails on our farm. We'll walk trails along our pastures and into the woods with your own llama companion. You'll learn the history of the camelid family, llama domestication, and how llamas and alpacas are used today. We'll also have the opportunity to tour the farm facility, meet the rest of the herd, and learn more about how we prepare and use their fiber. Other things to note: * We reserve the right to cancel an experience in the event of bad weather - we will walk in light rain, but will cancel in the event of heavy rain; * We do not schedule these walks in the middle of summer (July and August) as it gets too hot for the animals, but will add days from time to time over the summer as we check the weather forecast for cooler days. * Parts of the trails may be wet, muddy, or icy especially in winter, we'll navigate these areas carefully or find alternate routes as necessary. * guests should wear closed toed shoes and weather-appropriate clothing that is suitable for light hiking Each child under 10 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and will share a llama on the trails with an adult unless they've had prior experience with handling large livestock. Please do not ask to bring your pup as saying ‘no’ makes us sad.
Make a Celebration Ring
We will begin with a peek in the Gallery, featuring jewelry handcrafted by US artisans, and a tour of our Studio School. I will also share some history of our 1890 Victorian-era building. In the workshop, you will use steel letter stamps and a hammer to impress words of your choice onto sterling silver strips. Then, you will form the strip into a circle and solder it together (with help). Finally, oxidize (blacken) the ring, and polish to your desired finish. We limit the workshop to four students to guarantee lots of personal instruction, as well as the opportunity to get to know your classmates. Other things to note Unfortunately, our Victorian-era building is not fully accessible to the handicapped.
Baby Goat Playtime and Snuggles
Spring is here! Come snuggle and play with 20 of our Spring baby goats and precious new litter of Collie puppies! (Puppies will only be available for a short time.) We are available by request from 10am until 9pm daily now until May 31st. **** We are located in Bedford, VA. Please check our location before you make a reservation. **** You will get an hour to cuddle, play and watch these fuzzy and playful baby goats bounce and zoom around the barnyard. We will be glad to answer any questions you might have about Nigerian Dwarf goats as well. We supply treats for the nanny goats. You can also visit with our adorable mini donkeys, Sammy and Joey, cute but not-so-mini, mini-pigs, chickens, turkeys, sheep and chicks. We also raise AKC registered Collies and have puppy litters throughout the year. MESSAGE US FOR OTHER DATES AND TIMES YOU ARE INTERESTED IN. *** Please wear clothes and shoes that you don't mind getting dirty. *** The goats like to jump up on people. White tennis shoes and white pants are not advised. We are five miles from the Peaks of Otter and the Blue Ridge Parkway if you would like to spend more time in the area exploring or hiking. Our 1880's farmhouse and property are under construction. We have soap, water, hand sanitizer and a portable restroom available.
Bracelet making in 100-year-old building
We will begin with a peek in the Boutique, featuring jewelry handcrafted by award-winning US artists, and a behind-the-scenes look at my working jewelry studio. I will also share some history of my 1890 building, including a copy of the handwritten deed to the original house. In the workshop you will use a combination of specialized jeweler's hand tools (the same that were used to make jewelry in the 19th century) and modern equipment to make your bracelet. First, you will hammer steel letter stamps to impress inspirational words, phrases, and designs of your choice onto a copper strip. Then, you will form the strip into a cuff bracelet with hammers and steel tools, oxidize (blacken) the metal, and polish to your desired finish. You will go home with a meaningful piece of jewelry that you created with your own hands. We limit the workshop to eight students to guarantee lots of personal instruction, as well as the opportunity to get to know your classmates. You can relax and enjoy a glass of wine. Other things to note Our studio workstations are separated by plexiglass barriers. Hand sanitizer, masks, and disposable smocks are available. Unfortunately, our Victorian-era building is not fully accessible to the handicapped.
Come Sail With Us!
We're vaccinated for your safety and peace of mind! When you book our sailing experience, your payment goes to fund our non-profit outreach programs. Join our group experience as we sail around Baltimore Harbor and the Patapsco river (can be booked as a private experience as well). Do as much, or as little as you like. Take the helm, hoist and trim the sails, tack, jibe, or just sit back and enjoy the ride. We'll leave from Tindeco Wharf and sail out into the harbor. From there, we decide to sail toward the inner harbor or out past Fort McHenry, into the Patapsco river toward the Key bridge. This is a great opportunity to get more sailing time and develop your sailing skills under the watchful eye of a US Sailing Master Instructor Trainer. Never sailed before? No problem, during our time we'll teach you as much as you want. Just get away from it all on a relaxing sail? That not a problem either. Bring snacks and beverages to enjoy and just take in the breeze and enjoy the sights and sounds of sailing. Other things to note We're sailing on the 36' sailboat so it's not likely you'll get wet (unless it is raining). We will sail in light rain, but not in thunderstorms. If you enjoy your experience, it is okay to tip your captain and crew as you would any other in the service industry.
