Sightseeing

Edinburgh weather means it’s not usually a beach for sunbathing, but Portobello beach has a lovely Victorian era charm, as well as various restaurants and bars along the seafront. Why not hire a Just Eat bike and take a scenic cycle through the park to the beach?

It’s a bit of a trek out of the city but reachable on public transport. Jupiter Artland is a fun day out (especially if it’s dry!) with loads of modern art installations.

Another Duddingston Village gem, Dr Neil’s garden is stunning and a lovely place for a moment of calm (especially during the Edinburgh Fringe when things can get super hectic all over the city).

Food scene

This pub/restaurant is a bit of a tourist trap but for good reasons. It’s situated in gorgeous, historic Duddingston Village at the bottom of Arthur’s Seat, and lays claim to being the oldest pub in Scotland. It features a vintage skittle alley, which is especially fun after a few pints (but book ahead).

One of a few weekend street food markets in Edinburgh, this Leith collection of food and drink vendors is in a cool location and offers a great range of treats.
