Nestled on 5 acres, Pondicherri Village exudes a rustic village atmosphere where rest, relaxation and soul reset are considered high priorities. Its borrowed rural amenity and views are enabled as it is surrounded by much larger working farms creating a unique private oasis yet close to all the Barossa Valley offers. Some of the buildings are of historic interest at Pondicherri Village and date back to 1845. The Barn is one of those buildings
The Barn is a single room building constructed with thick stone walls and exposed internal timber beams. The building is aged well over 100 years. We are not sure of its original use. The Barn originally had the tiny window on the south side and one door many a year ago! For those that do book, look out for the circular patterns on the walls near the bed!
Today, the Barn is furnished with a very comfortable super-sized king bed complete with crisp white sheets and natural fibre quality bed linens. In winter, you will keep toasty with the individual dual zoned and electric blankets. The bed is so huge, it is also perfect for travelling family members or good friends to share!
You have access to a smart TV with Netflix, Stan and Chromecast to watch movies while you cozy up in bed and/or access the NBN fixed wireless network for all your modern communication needs. Or, should you need to work (and we hope you don’t), you can set yourself up on the drop leaf table or maybe, just stay in bed!
An eclectic separate dressing area showcases a large gilded mirror, a vintage secretaire containing a hairdryer, umbrella alongside hanging racks with two white bathrobes, a stool, and a long bench to contain your luggage. Included is a fold-out ironing board and iron. A small kitchenette contains a kettle, microwave, toaster and fridge to ensure you have everything you need for a comfortable stay.
There is no running water in the Barn, but we do provide a handmade 2-litre capacity ceramic water purifier system that removes virtually all contaminants including fluoride. The water purifier can be replenished with potable water from the Wash House with the stainless steel jug that are provided in the Barn.
The north-facing deck is totally private and is a wonderful sunny spot to start your day. Later, you can sip your glass of Barossa wine with the occasional spotting of kangaroos in the paddocks. On a clear night, the Milky Way is stunning! Download a stargazing app and find the different constellations. Get your phone torch out and spotlight spider eyes that twinkle like diamonds in the paddocks. Buy some local yummy delicacies and your stay is very relaxing, peaceful and rejuvenating - especially for city folk - or so we are told by our guests!
The lockable private shower room and separate toilet are a short walk from The Barn and are located in the Wash House that is semi-attached to the (circa 1845) historic original settlers building of mud/straw and stone. Take a step back in time and ‘walk the walk’ of the original Barossa settlers - but these wash facilities are modern-day!
We grow a selection of organic herbs and vegetables. Just ask us what’s growing and we would be delighted to pick fresh produce for you to enjoy during your stay with us.
In the warmer months, you will have access to a 12 x 3.5 metre swimming pool. It is a shared space enjoyed by us and all guests but mostly you will find you can enjoy the pool by yourself.
It is what is on the inside that counts! We live on the property too and we are gradually upgrading the grounds but you will be very comfortable and importantly - very private.
However, if you are older or maybe have the need for suburban indoor comforts and/or a frequent night toilet user- the Barn might not be for you!
The Barn is a mix of old and new experiences. It shares the nuances of glamping but it’s neither a hotel room experience, a house nor an apartment! You can even leave the ‘dunny’ door open complete with a view! If you think you can enjoy this type of experience, we warmly welcome you to book with us at Pondicherri Village and The Barn.
We are only 5 minutes drive to the pretty historic village of Angaston that is well serviced with a varied selection of cafes, numerous restaurants ranging from great takeaways/dine in options to fine dining, 2 pubs, a florist, a supermarket, butcher, hardware, medical centre, post office, speciality Barossa food businesses and some retail therapy.
We are 5 minutes drive from the famed Barossa Valley Farmers Market that is open every Saturday morning. There are many high-quality wineries, restaurants, food establishments and historic buildings to explore across the region.
If food and wine are not your thing, there are numerous walking and cycling trails, some easy bushwalks including spotting kangaroos at Kaisersthul Conservation Park. Or you could go ballooning or a helicopter ride for the birds eye view! Just about everything except surfing!
We are only one hour's drive to the nearest South Australian coastline, only one+half hour's drive into city of Adelaide and a one hour drive to the Adelaide Hills area. There is so much to do and explore in this beautiful part of Australia.
