Parks & Nature

For visitors to Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island) the North Gorge Walk is an absolute must do. The 1.2 kilometre boardwalk follows the headland of Point Lookout, offering a spectacular outlook from the rocky outcrops to 32 kilometres of white sandy beach – some of the best in Australia. The boardwalk views over ocean and coastline are simply breathtaking. Take your time and enjoy the walk and its unique experience. The clear waters make it easy to spot marine life including whales, dolphins and manta rays, a treat in itself. It is the best vantage point on the island – and one of the best on the eastern seaboard - to see the thousands of humpback whales migrating to and from the calving grounds which pass annually between June and November. While you're taking in the incomparable view over the gorge itself, keep your eyes peeled for giant sea turtles riding the waves below. The Gorge Walk is a North Stradbroke Island icon and reveals just how pristine and unspoiled this magnificent island truly is.

Myora Springs is a beautiful spot and source of fresh water for the wildlife of the Dunwich area, just a few kilometres out of Dunwich on the road to Amity Point and Point Lookout.Myora Springs, or Moongalba (sitting down place) has a pure-freshwater spring that is running today, just as it has for thousands of years. In the forest surrounding the Myora Springs is an abundance of freshwater crayfish, prawns, bungwal fern and other plant foods and so it is no surprise to learn this was a favoured camping place of the Aboriginal people. The banks feature parts of large middens, which contain, among other things, cockle, oyster and whelk shells.

Some say it’s the most spectacular view in the country (if not the world)! On a sunny day, the sparkling turquoise waters are so clear you can spot pods of dolphins frolicking, turtles and manta rays playing (November to February). The headland is not only a great vantage point for marine life, but you’ll often share your perfect picnic spot with some friendly kangaroos grazing on the lawn.
