As we were traveling to Americus for a quick "mental health getaway" - my husband surprised me with this stop which he found searching the area for something a little different to do.
What a great find! The area is incredibly gorgeous. The retail/wine tasting building is also very lovely. But the highlight of the visit was being most fortunate to meet Hanna - a very friendly and personable young lady who took the time to fill us in on the history of the land - and the nuances of the wine and its development. Assisted by the wine tasting and Hanna - we purchased several bottles of wine.

The rural southern culture of Plains, Georgia, that revolves around farming, church, and school had a large influence in molding the character and in shaping the political policies of the 39th President of the United States. The site includes President Carter's residence, boyhood farm, school, and the railroad depot, which served as his campaign headquarters during the 1976 election. The Plains High School serves as the park's museum and visitor center. The Jimmy Carter National Preservation District includes part of the town of Plains and its environs. The area surrounding the residence is under the protectio
