Food scene

Rachel works here, and she knows that the food and service are second to none. The pub is a Butcombe/Liberation premises, and giving guests a positive and consistent experience is core to their ethos. We provide copies of their menus and highly recommend a visit - for sociable drinks or for a bite to eat. You won't be disappointed. In summer they serve food outdoors from the Garden Bar and in winter, there's log fires and a warm, cosy enviroment in which to relax.

The Lakes

Renowned for trout and pike, Chew Valley Lake attracts fishing folk from far and wide. We can put you in touch with local guides who can show you how to get the best out of fishing on both waters. There are lakeside walks and bird-watching hides, which offer the opportunity to see rare breeds and flocks of migrations as they pass through before heading further south for the winter.

There's a market in the square twice weekly, and many independent traders still sell their goods on the high street. There are great options for breakfast or lunch combined with a trip to the Cathedral or Bishop's Palace. Great places for a visit

There's loads of advice on-line, but Bath offers the best of everything from high street shopping, taking a spa, visiting the historic landmarks such as the Roman Baths and Cathedral, to eating out and taking in a show at one of several theatres in the city. The Christmas Market is legendary, and there are regular trains to London and Cornwall for day-trips.

Sightseeing

Cheddar Gorges is walkable from Woodview - if you're game for some steep ups and downs over a period of about 2.5 hours! If you do accept the challenge, you'll get to walk through Velvet Bottom. A walker who came to the pub recently said: "it's not often you get to say that". There are wild goats, climbers and the usual 'Great British Attractions' to be found at the bottom of the Gorge. As a consequence, it may test your patience during the summer because it can get very busy with traffic and pedestrians at the bottom of the Gorge. But it's definitely worth a trip to see the natural landscape, and it gets much quieter in the evenings. There are a couple of curry houses that cook up pretty good meals, as well as a Tesco Local, central pub The Bath Arms, and cashpoint.
