I like historic places, but my favorite thing about this place is that the grounds are absolutely gorgeous. One can pan for gold in Crow Creek, or opt to just take a walking tour.

At high tide you may catch a glimpse of beluga whales in the Turnagain Arm (bay). On the opposite of the road, look up and you may spot a mountain goats or Dall Sheep climbing on the cliffs.

This hike is pretty user friendly for families. It is well worth the 1 mile hike. You may want to wear mosquito repellant. 😉

Bring layers and hiking boots
The weather can be gorgeous and sunny, or cool and rainy in the spring, summer and fall: bring rain gear. In the winter, snow pants, boots and a warm coat are necessary.

Seeing wildlife in Alaska can be exciting. You may see moose, bear, whales, mountain goats, sheep and bald eagles all in one day. Make sure you are aware of your surroundings and give animals plenty of space. It is a good idea to carry bear spray when on hikes as well.
