La Basilica di S. Francesco dista meno di 200 metri dalla struttura. Questa è una delle chiese più conosciute al mondo e con bellissimi dipinti del famoso pittore italiano Giotto. Accanto alla parte alta della chiesa si trova l'ingresso del Sentiero Francescano (Sentiero Francesco del Bosco FAI), un bel parco che porta ai piedi del colle proprio dietro la chiesa. Prima di avventurarti in discesa, tieni presente che potresti voler organizzare un mezzo di trasporto in salita perchè è un'escursione piuttosto ripida. Penso che questa sia una buona escursione di una giornata in discesa e ritorno in salita a piedi, la buona notizia è che il parco in fondo ha un grazioso ristorante aperto durante i periodi estivi dove puoi mangiare del buon cibo immerso nella natura.

This is one of the most known churches in the world and with beautiful paintings from the famous Italian painter Giotto. Next to the upper part of the church there is the entrance to the Franciscan Pathway (Sentiero Francesco del Bosco FAI), a beautiful park that brings you at the bottom of the hill just behind the church. Before venturing downhill, please keep in mind that you might want to arrange some way of transportation uphill since it is a pretty steep hike. I think this a good day hike going downhill and coming back uphill by foot, the good news is that the park at the bottom has pretty restaurant open during summer times where you can eat some nice food immersed in the nature.

Si tratta di un monastero eremitico dove S.Francesco trascorse buona parte della sua vita. La sua tranquillità e l'aria fresca sono uniche e meritano sicuramente una visita. Ci sono taxi che possono portarti fino alla vista ma potrebbero essere costosi. Consiglierei di guidare l'auto qui, ci sono alcuni parcheggi non molto lontani dall'ingresso. Non è consigliabile salire su per la collina dalla città poiché è una distanza davvero lunga, solo escursionisti esperti e in forma possono farlo.

Ci sono molte escursioni che puoi fare partendo da diversi punti della montagna. La maggior parte delle migliori escursioni facili secondo me parte dalla cima della montagna o intorno all'Eremo delle Carceri quindi consiglierei di salire in macchina fino in cima e parcheggiare sul parcheggio di ghiaia circondato da praterie. Da lì si continua a camminare seguendo la strada sterrata che vi porterà sulla vetta più alta della montagna i “Mortaro” che sono grandi buche nella montagna con un ambiente unico. Dal parcheggio di ghiaia si scende in mezzo alla prateria verso un piccolo rifugio e si incontra un sentiero escursionistico non raggiungibile in auto. Se si segue quel sentiero abbastanza a lungo si arriva al “Sasso Piano” uno strapiombo roccioso da cui si ha una bella vista sulla vallata sottostante (soprattutto al tramonto).
Se sei pronto per una sfida, puoi partire da Assisi e salire in cima alla montagna (è un'escursione di 7 KM in salita con quasi 1000 metri di dislivello). Si tratta in genere di un'escursione di un'intera giornata che parte dalla porta più alta del paese, sale alla rocca Minore e prosegue salendo raggiungendo prima l'Eremo delle Carceri e poi la cima del monte.

Next to Assisi there is a beautiful National Park where you can enjoy the nature and find some relax from the tourist life. There are plenty of hikes that you can do starting from different points of the mountain. Most of the best easy hikes in my opinion start from the top of the mountain or around the Eremo delle Carceri so I would recommend driving up to the top and park on the gravel parking surrounded by prairies. From there you can keep walking following the gravel road and it will bring you to the highest peak of the mountain the the “Mortaro”s which are big holes in the mountain with a unique environment. From the gravel parking lot you can walk down in the middle of the prairie towards a little hut and you will find an hiking path that cannot be reached by car. If you follow that path long enough you get to “Sasso Piano” a rocky overlook from where you can get a beautiful view of the valley underneath (especially at sunset).
If you are up for a challenge, you can leave from Assisi and walk up to the top of the mountain (it is a 7 KM hike uphill with almost 1000 meters of elevation). This is usually a full day hike that starts from the uppermost town gate, goes up to the a little fortress (Rocca Minore) and continues going up reaching first the Eremo delle Carceri and then the top of the mountain

Transportation
This is the paid parking lot closest to the apartment. The daily rate is 10 euros with the Assisi card that we can provide to guests upon request. The parking is located at 5 minutes by foot to the property, the way is steep so you can first drop your party and luggages at the property first and then park the car.
There are a bus stop and a taxi stop next to the parking lot. Both will be able to bring you to the train station or to the airport. The bus to the airport is called AirLink and comes1-2 per hour, tickets can be purchased onboard. The bus to the train station is a red bus w that will say train station in the front (stazione), you can purchase a bus ticket at Bar Bibiano.
