Nerja and the Natural Park

Sightseeing

The Maro Cerro Gordo natural park is the 15 km stretch of protected coastline that runs west from Nerja to the town of La Herradura. No development is allowed in this area, so prepare to experience unspoilt beaches, crystal clear waters and stunning coastal views. Either drive to one of the beaches or take a kayak tour from Nerja's Burriana beach and explore the coves and waterfalls along the coast. This is top of my list of things you must do when you are here.

City/town information

The pretty whitewashed village of Frigiliana is the next town inland from Nerja and is a short car or bus trip to get there. You can also walk there via the Rio Chillar/Higuerón (please ask me for directions) and get the bus or taxi back. The narrow cobbled streets of the town wind up the side of hills overlooking Nerja and give stunning views back towards Nerja and the Mediterranean beyond. There are plenty of bars and restaurants in the village where you can stop for a coffee or lunch plus small shops where you can browse artisan clothes, jewellery and even chocolate. Highly recommended.
