It’s a little bit outside of the peninsula but this is the best Ethiopian restaurant in town with lovely atmosphere and the best injera. Injera is a sour fermented flatbread with a slightly spongy texture, traditionally made of teff flour. I recommend the vegetarian combo.

Slipway is an old-faithful Dar es Salaam hangout spot. Day or night, Toddler, GenZ, millennial, or Boomer, there's something for everyone, including but not limited to: panoramic oceanfront views, shops and outdoor crafts or farmers markets, restaurants (esp. Thai Khani!), cafes bars, live music, book shops, supermarkets, bank/bureau de change/ATMs, hair salons, spas, pharmacy, a kids play area and plenty other family-friendly entertainment. You can also set sail from The Slipway for cruises, snorkeling, water sports, or cross over for a day or over-night trip to the tiny but beautiful Mbudya and Bongoyo Islands.

Bagamoyo, is a coastal town founded at the end of the 18th century, though it is an extension of a much older Swahili settlement, Kaole. Full of history and only a couple of hours away it’s worth a visit.

It caters to a variety of needs such as (but not limited to) a supermarket, a movie theatre, a decently stocked beauty supply store, indoor and outdoor market stalls, and food vendors (I recommend Burger 53).
This is our biggest mall. Here you’ll find everything from retail therapy and night life, to very serious banks and mobile network offices. Speaking of, if you’re staying in Dar for at least 5 days, stop by the Vodacom office and get a SIM card (you’ll need your Passport or Government ID). It’ll make moving around so much easier.
