This place is the bomb diggity for fresh, locally caught (same day) seafood. They fry or steam to perfection in just the right breading and seasoning. Never judge a book by it's cover. It looks like a dump. Hand painted highway signs and rickety picnic tables. Come for the FOOD. The people are very nice and friendly. The stray cats come for the seafood but are fun to watch. Lot's of local working folk eat here. Always a good sign.

Everything's good, but I especially love their She-Crab soup. There's more backfin crab soupl than any I've ever eaten. Fun shop too.

Sweet baked goods to DIE for. If you go around 9-9:30, cinnamon rolls as big as your face, hot from the oven.

Fine dining. Outstanding food, menu varies. Locally sourced. Great "date night" choice. They have recently added protected, very comfortable outdoor seating and in a separate building, "Kuchi's" Suchi bar/cocktail lounge to the back, live music some nights.
For both Maurice's and Kuchis, reservations strongly recommended. Easy 2 block walk from Sea Glass Cottage!

Best publicly available beach! Dunes, sun, sand, salt, surf! Watch for the famous wild ponies (secure your picnic basket! Like Yogi, they like people food and will get into it) Outstanding, white sand Atlantic Ocean beaches. You can drive on to part of it with 4WD vehicle. Camping, nature tours led by Naturalists and park rangers. Great kayak/canoeing. If you're a birder this is one of the foremost birdwatching locations in the nation and on the migratory path of many species you might not see elsewhere in the mid-Atlantic.

Outstanding coffee (barista style) and light menu. The beverages and food are outstanding but the setting is spectacular. Inside it's full of local art so more like a studio and much of it for sale. Huge leather sofa to hang out on and read or chat. Small shady outdoor seatings -- sometimes they do yoga or other mindful activities in conjunction with other local practitioners. Very cool.

Sightseeing and recreation
So much to see and do all over the Eastern Shore of Virginia! The Delmarva Peninsula is full of great beaches, trails, wildlife and related activities. "Delmarva" is "Del-aware, Mar-yland and V-irgini-a. Onancock is south central to the entire peninsual and a great jumping off place to all there is to do here.
Outstanding place to rent bikes, kayaks, canoes, paddleboards etc. Lessons and guides too. Best way to see Onancock is from the water!

Waterfront
Sea Glass Cottage is a cottage, but not a BEACH cottage. It is in Onancock which is a village, and a "destination but not a resort. There are many nearby beaches - both Atlantic Ocean and Chesapeake Bay. Onancock is a waterfront town on Onancockk "creek" an inlet from the Chesapeake.It's a wonderful town for kayaking and biking. The Chesapeake is a short ways outside the harbor which is right in the center of town. The main street and the harbor are about 6 longish blocks and an easy walk from the cottage. There's a public boat launch and Marina as well as a ferry to Tangier Island.

The Eastern Shore is sandwiched between the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean so there are many beaches within easy driving distance. Assateague Island, about 30 minutes north of Onancock is home of the wild ponies made famous in the children's books "Misty of Chincoteague". Several parks and other beaches surround you.
