Recently voted the "Best Small Town in America" by USA Today, Montpelier is the smallest state capital. We enjoy the independently owned small shops offering books, recordings, clothing, fine crafts chocolates and pastries, the Statehouse and great food! Well worth the half hour drive---and on the way to Barre if you are planning to go to Hope Cemetery.

This is a great street to stroll. There are free art galleries, several unique shops, Citizen Cider, Zero Gravity and Queen City Brewing. We also recommend Great Harvest Bakery for breads and cookies (try the pepperoni roll--amazing!) and for exceptional wine, Dedalus.
