Sightseeing
Located in the city centre, the castle is well worth a visit. You can join a tour of the living quarters, stroll around the castle walls or enjoy the stunning views from the top of the old motte and bailey castle. The castle has a cafe, toilets and gift shop and is a great way to learn more about the history of Cardiff and Wales. There is also plenty of open space for picnics and for children to run around.

Whilst the more modern shopping centre, St David's, contains all of the major national chains, the arcades offer something special and unique. You could start with Castle Arcade, just opposite the castle, before working your way through the other arcades that are nearby. You could start with Castle Arcade, just opposite the castle, before working your way through the other arcades that are nearby. There are no shortage of places to eat and drink, including family favourites like Pizza Express and Zizzi's. There are often events taking place in Roald Dahl Plass or the beautiful foyer of the Wales Millennium Centre. There's a great walk and cycle route over the barrage to Penarth and plenty of shorter routes around the former docks too. You can also go for a boat ride around the bay. We've enjoyed travelling on the Princess Katharine boat right up to Bute park and Cardiff Castle.

Parks
Our beautiful local park, which is a 15 minute walk from the studio. There is also a car park. You can visit the children's playground or enjoy a stroll through the woodlands. For visitors to the University Hospital of Wales, the park is located right next door. Nearby, Park Side cafe is worth a visit for a delicious slice of cake!

The archimedes screw provides hydroelectric power and is an impressive sight when in action. We often see a heron perched by the weir and children enjoy paddling in the river and building dams on the small pebble beach. Also popular with cyclists, there are picnic benches next to the weir.

If you want a quick change of scenery and some fresh air, the bowling green at Llwynfedw Gardens is a good option. It's just over the other side of Caerphilly Road to us. There's also a multi-purpose games court on the other side of the community hall.

Just 10 minutes' walk away from the studio, Park Side is very popular with locals and serves delicious slices of cake. Well worth a visit, especially if you're visiting Heath Park, which is next to the cafe.
