Those looking for an adventure can ride the aerial tram located at OHSU hosiptal. It goes from SW waterfront to the top of Marquam hill, where on a clear day you can see all the mountains that surround Portland (Hood, Rainier, Adams) plus full view of downtown and the river. Catch it at sunrise or go at night for lovely colors and lights (minus the mountains). Just make sure to check the hours online before you go over there.
Tip: Cost is $4.50 but they only charge to go up. If you hop on from the top and don't need to go back up, it is free!
When you get to the top, check out the Feathered Nesst for a beer or lunch/dinner.

There is always a crazy line at every location but this location is better than others. The secret is that they let you skip the line (as long as you don't want to taste test), if you just want cartons to-go. Grab a spoon or buy a cone a-la-cart and carton of your choice, and make your own at home or as you explore Portland!

just a couple blocks from the house and on the walk to People's Co-op, this park has a playground, basketball court and baseball field, as well as various open grassy fields to have a mid-day picnic or a game of Frisbee. I would not recommend going here at night as there is a community of homeless that camp here. Although harmless, it is probably best to avoid them at night, just in case.

Although Safeway on Cesar and Powell is the closest corporate grocery store and walking distance, if you go up to Hawethorne down Cesar E, the Fred Meyer there has more selection and cheaper, but you may need to drive or take a bus.
