Across from the Fort Fisher Historic site is the recreation area. The unique trees make a great spot for a picnic and the rocks are always a fun place to explore. Just south of the rocks was one of the best surfing breaks in the area growing up, the Cove. The pointbreak-like wave is practically gone, but it is still a beautiful area to visit.

Each year, our family rents a street legal golf cart to explore the island. Whether we are heading out for a meal or just taking a break from the beach to ride, it is just more fun in a golf cart! Tip for parents: when the kids get cranky from a day in the sun, a quick ride on the golf cart works like a charm to cheer them up :)
