Big Bear Alpine Zoo is a rehabilitation center for wild animals that have been injured, imprinted or orphaned. The zoo received every year over a hundred animals that have been impacted in such a way that they cannot survive in the wild.
The good news is that over 90% of them gets safely reintroduced to the wild. For the others, well, the zoo becomes their permanent facility.

Food scene
BRUNCH.
It is our preferred brunch place. The have brunches until early afternoon that it is not a bad thing for those who are not early birds :-)
Dog friendly (they even have a little menu all for them).

APERITIF.
It's our aperitif place, mainly for the great lake view. We like ending the afternoon here, with some cheeses, artichokes and a glass of cold white wine (they have a good Sauvignon Blanc that pairs greatly with sunny late afternoons).
The menu is simple but fair. If you are looking for something more fancy, you can go to its "brother restaurant", the adjacent Pine Lakefront.

The Pines Tavern On The Lake

It's our aperitif place, mainly for the great lake view. We like ending the afternoon here, with some cheeses, artichokes and a glass of cold white wine (they have a good Sauvignon Blanc that pairs greatly with sunny late afternoons).
The menu is simple but fair. If you are looking for something more fancy, you can go to its "brother restaurant", the adjacent Pine Lakefront.

They have great hamburgers and tap beer list (not a huge list, but well assorted). My go to burger is the Californication.
Rock, hamburger, beer: sometimes is just what we need.
Advise for families: for dinner is pretty packed but for lunch the waiting time is much shorter and they kids can enjoy drawing on the wall-blackboard while you enjoy your beer

BAKERY . Walking distance from home. Wake up, prepare coffee and while it is brewing walk to the bakery for some croissants and cookies. My personal favorite is the ham, cheese and jalapeno croissant
