The Meteora is a rock formation in central Greece hosting one of the largest and most precipitously built complexes of Eastern Orthodox monasteries, second in importance only to Mount Athos. The six (of an original twenty four) monasteries are built on immense natural pillars and hill-like rounded boulders that dominate the local area. It is located near the town of Kalambaka at the northwestern edge of the Plain of Thessaly near the Pineios river and Pindus Mountains.

The walls consist of the typical late Roman mixed construction of ashlar masonry alternating with bands of brick. The northern part of the walls adjoins the acropolis of the city, which formed a separate fortified enceinte, and within it lies another citadel, the Heptapyrgion (Seven Towers), popularly known by the Ottoman translation of the name, Yedi Kule.

Fantastic place and amazing food. A bit pricey but I can say that it worths every penny. All dishes were delicious. And the steak is the best, they serve it in a bit iron plate and you can always warm your meat or season it with salt and butter. The internist is really nice and worm, they also have yard which you can sit there to enjoy the open space and the weather. If you are a meat lover, definitely recommend.
