Arnis (Danish: Arnæs) is the smallest town in Germany with just over 300 inhabitants. It is located in Schleswig-Holstein on a peninsula in the Schlei (Schleswig-Flensburg district, Landschaft Angeln) and together with the municipalities of Grödersby, Oersberg and Rabenkirchen-Faulück forms the Amt Kappeln-Land. The town identifies itself on the town sign as "Bad Arnis", in memory of a former bathing establishment in the town. Since 1988 it has been possible to bathe there again, a visitor's tax is not charged. Arnis served, just like Kappeln, as the location for the series "Der Landarzt".

The Schlei stretches with a length of 42 km from Schleimünde the Pilot Island, Olpenitz - south and Maasholm - north, via Kappeln and Arnis to the city of Schleswig, where you will find a small island, the Möweninsel. The Schlei separates the parts of the country Angeln and Schwansen and has an average width of 1.3 km and an average depth of 3 m. Along the Schlei there are many natural bays. The widest part of the Schlei is between Missunde and Schleswig, where the Great Width and the Little Width are located. Both are good sailing, rowing and fishing grounds. Brackish water is found in the Schlei, the salt content of which decreases steadily from Schleimünde to Schleswig. To the left and right, sea-like extensions, so-called Noore, have formed which are connected to the Schlei. The Schlei is a popular sailing area, the partly touristically influenced Schleiregion is an important recreation area for the nearby state capital Kiel - and of course also for the big city south of Schleswig-Holstein, Hamburg.
