On the doorstep of Field Cottage is The Broads National Park. Lakes, rivers, windmills and nature trails abound.
One of the best ways to learn about the Broads and to see the wildlife and flora is to go on the water itself.
We can recommend MV Lady Ann, based at Horsey, with Skipper Ross. He has a traditional wooden Broads boat for guided exploration tours. One hour trips.
You can hire canoes at Hickling & Stalham or use the nature trails and cycle paths that abound.

Horsey Gap is an amazing place to go & see the large Grey Seals we have on the Norfolk Coast. Approx. 2,000 pups are born at Horsey Gap each year between late November & January.

Norfolk is one of the most important bird watching counties in the UK – and there’s plenty to see year-round. Field Cottage’s dunes are ideal to watch the migratory birds during the spring and autumn. Spring sees the departure of the winter wildfowl and waders and the arrival of the first birds from their wintering grounds in Africa. By mid-April, thousands of birds are pouring along the coast on their long journeys north.
In the summer, the Norfolk Little Turn project, is one of the largest protected breeding colonies in the UK and is managed by the RSPB. You can even volunteer to scare away the birds of prey, foxes and hedgehogs if you like!

These are regularly found along the whole beach from Happisburgh to Eccles because of coastal erosion.
