Plaza Las Américas is a shopping mall in Hato Rey, San Juan, Puerto Rico. "Plaza", as it is known to many Puerto Ricans, was the first indoor shopping mall built in Puerto Rico. Old San Juan is home to the San Juan National Historic Site, with buildings dating from the 16th century, including the San Felipe del Morro and San Cristóbal fortresses and the old city walls. The Bautista Cathedral houses the tomb of Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de León. Trails run to La Mina waterfall and Mount Britton, then up to the high-altitude dwarf forest. In the south are ancient petroglyphs, made by the area’s indigenous Taíno people. The forest comes alive with the nightly calls of coquí tree frogs.
