Pikes Peak - America's Mountain is one of the most visited mountains in the world and a top tourist attraction for the State of Colorado. Pikes Peak can be seen as the manifestation of the American spirit and desire to explore and experience our vast frontier. From the time Zebulon Pike spotted the Peak in 1806, through the late 20th century, development on the Peak has exemplified man’s desire to conquer nature. In many ways this is what makes Pikes Peak such an extraordinary place to visit—almost the only place in the world where all people, young and old, in good health and even those with disabilities can experience the summit of a 14,000 peak. The new state-of-the-art visitor center is now open

City/town information

Castle Rock is named for its iconic castle-shaped butte, perched above downtown. The town was founded in 1874. Prior to this, the land was home to the Arapaho and Cheyenne tribes, who resided in the geography between the South Platte River and Arkansas River. In recent years Castle Rock has grown to a fun town full of options and adventures. From hiking to shopping, dinning, concerts, and events, there is fun for everyone.

On the northern slope of Pike National Forest, this area just south of Denver is a quiet nook in one of the state's fastest-growing counties. Get thee to Larkspur in the summer (mid-June through early August) for the not-to-be-missed annual Colorado Renaissance Festival. Wooded grounds are transformed into a 16th-century village, complete with minstrels and maidens, artisans creating period crafts and allegedly authentic food including the ever-popular turkey leg — just the way you'd imagine it. The festival's live entertainment lineup includes jousting sessions, jesters and magicians. Another attraction in Larkspur is the 18-hole Golf Club at Bear Dance. The public course includes a luxurious clubhouse, restaurant, lounge and pro shop. It's also home to the impressive Colorado Professional Golf Association Historical Center, a collection of exhibits on the history of golf in the nation's highest state. On the outskirts of Larkspur are a few lodging facilities at local ranch-style B&Bs. Visit the friendly folks at the Spur of the Moment Roadhouse and Restaurant or go shopping at the Outlets at Castle Rock, just a few minutes to the south.

Funky little town! Make sure to bring a little cup with you to try all the different mineral waters from the fountains! This town has no shortage of fun things to do. Some of my personal favorites are: -The Manitou Incline (intense climb up an old railroad track with stunning views and a nice trail leading you back down) -The penny Arcade with vintage games and newer games to play -SunWater Spa Hot springs. Soak in the tubs with a view of the mountains -Mate Factory They always have fun/wild events going on. Have you ever been to an official fruitcake toss? "Maybe it’s the mountain air, or the natural mineral springs. It might be the open-air dining or that feeling of being nestled just at the foot of Pikes Peak. Whatever it is, we know that nature rejuvenates us, now more than ever. For centuries people have been making trips here to taste the magic and mystery of Manitou’s healing waters. Come and experience the magic for yourself—we dare you."

Hiking

The Palmer Lake Reservoirs are beautiful! One of my favorite hikes! As you hike you can hear the gentle sound of the creek, you feel the mountain air and admire the mountains. The incline to the first reservoir is a little steep but once you get there its worth the view. Hang out by the first reservoir or carry on to the second one. If you feel like a longer hike you can adventure past the boulder fields or take one of the side trails. The options up the reservoir are limitless allowing you to find an all day adventure or get a good view in just a short amount of time.

Spruce Mountain’s wooded, gradual 8.5 mile trail ascends to the loop on the rock-rimmed flat top makes it as popular as it is stunning. The trail system provides immediate access to fun terrain and views. The climb to the upper loop is hard and so worth the effort. This trail system tickles the senses – the fresh air, chirping birds, bear scat, grass tickling your legs, the wind blowing your hair, and the sun warming your bone – what more is there? Local tip: Hang out at the top long enough to watch a train come by- you're up so high you can see the entire train at once. One of my favs!!! A beautiful hike with outstanding views! Dog Friendly! Horse friendly! Bike friendly!

Parks

Festival Park right in the heart of Castle Rock has markets, concerts and events. Splash by the creek, hang by the fire (lovely outdoor fire-pits) In the summer play in the splash pad. In the winter, Festival Park has a huge Christmas tree with ornaments as big as basket balls. The whole downtown area is lit up for the holiday season and absolutely beautiful.

Great place to take your Fur friends! I like to start by the lake, play fetch with my dogs and then take them for a walk on one of the many paths so they have plenty of time to dry before loading them back in the car! Beautiful areas for picnics, yoga in the park, Frisbee, soccer or just chillin. Visitors will find a restful environment among the thick forest of ponderosa pines. Timber Ridge provides an overlook of Aspen and Spruce Lakes as well as a picturesque setting of Pikes Peak and the mountain backdrop. Trail users will enjoy four miles of multi-use trails that wind through the Fallen Timbers area, pavilions, playgrounds and gazebo on the lake. Fox Run Regional Park is a hidden jewel in the northern part of El Paso County. Hiking, trails, playing fields, a climbing rock and picnic areas are just a few of the amenities awaiting tourists and locals alike

Okay okay I know. Usually I pick placed that make food from one single region because then they really have it down. But Pegasus is SO DELICIOUS! The greek platter is the most amazing thing, I get it every time I go! Its great to split between two people and has everything you could ever want on one giant plate! They are only open breakfast and lunch so make sure to check the hours before you visit. Local Tip: Call in for Takeout (The greek platter) Pick it up and drive the 5 mins to Miller Activity Complex.
