Neighborhood Restaurants

Walking distance from The Lair: Mint Vietnamese - delicious, healthy, and affordable this is a hugely popular spot for locals. Excellent Phos and Bánh Mi. You can call in an order and walk down to pick it up as well. Dat Dog - gourmet hot dogs or sausage prepared a million different ways on a slightly sweet roll - yummy! Great hang over food. Freret Beer Room - despite what the restaurant name is, they make GREAT food...and some Nola classics like shrimp and grits, gumbo, oyster poboys and boudin poboys. Also good hangover food. Good brunch. Cure - AMAZING cocktails, great small plate foods. Can't beat this place for atmosphere, drinks and people watching....lots of pretty people. Happy hour until 7:00. Anchora Pizza - brick oven pizza just like from Italy. I ADORE the margherita pizza from this place. You can't get it to go. Midway Pizza - you can get it to go. They do deep dish and regular. High Hat - serves very, very good regional food. Try the fried chicken. Has southern food such as meat and two vegetables plate, really, really good. Fun fact, they make their own tonic water. Bar Frances - and has a happy hour with food plates. Wine bar with a huge selection of wines. Loud, bustling atmosphere. Wayfare - Also has a happy hour. Wonderful brunch....you can sit street side and watch folks. Has it's own following.
Best cocktails in town...great small plates too. Fun and pretty crowd. Happy hour until 7:00.

Half Cuban and half Mexican, this very casual and reasonable restaurant has great bowls...like the grilled shrimp bowl as well as cuban sandwich, a variety of cuban platters, quesadillas, and yummy margaritas which they usually run on special. Very friendly staff.
