This park is one of the few sites in the United States that explore and document the African American experiences during the Civil War, following the journey of African American slaves to freedom. It is also the first site in Arkansas to be included in the National Underground Railroad Network of the National Park Service.

Located in a small town in northern Arkansas, this site was the family home of Hemingway's second wife, Pauline Pfeiffer, whose family were prominent members of the community. A barn on the property was converted into a studio for Hemingway when he visited the family there. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the home has been renovated and the museum focuses on life in the 1930's.
