Local drinks

Our friends started Amalga Distillery a few years back, and it has quickly become a hot spot! Stop by for a delicious gin drink, and pick up a bottle to bring home. They typically have a non-alcoholic beverage on tap as well.

Sightseeing

A little biased because I worked on this museum, but it is a must visit on your trip to Juneau. It reopened with brand new exhibits in 2016. It’s unique in that the stories of all of Alaska’s history and cultures are told here. It’s a little bit farther away, about a 15 minute walk.

With changing exhibits and a permanent clan house, visit Sealaska to learn about the Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian people of Southeast Alaska. You can learn the history of Alaska’s indigenous people, as well as how the culture continues today. Their gift shop is also a must see.

I highly recommend a trip with Renée and Winston on their landing craft. You’ll likely see humpback whales, Stellar sea lions, eagles, killer whales if you’re lucky! Their tours are personalized, but often include a stop at one of our many islands, and a walk through the woods. They are a fantastic team of captain and naturalist and what you see on the water never gets old! We love whales!!

Neighborhoods

Downtown Juneau is historic, walkable, and a thriving arts and cultural community. It’s nestled into the base of a mountain, so there are many hills and some streets are staircases! You’re also minutes away from an incredible trail system—we have more trails than roads in Juneau.

Layers, layers, layers.

Juneau is lush and green and beautiful. Because of rain. You are about to visit the largest temperate rainforest in the world! When you are packing for your visit, remember your layers: of rain gear, sweatshirts/fleece, long underwear in the winter, and some lighter clothes for warm days.
