Guidebook for Chanthaburi

The province everyone wanted

Chanthaburi is rich in history. France coveted it as part of their Indochina empire and annexed it for 10 years at the turn of the 20th century. But it was too valuable to give up and the King of Thailand Rama V paid a lot of mony and traded Thailand's land along the Mekong River including Anghor Wat to get it vack.
This is our local beach...it is a little bay in the Gulf of Thailand. I like it because it is always changing...sometimes very tranquil with golden sand and lovely light and colours, sometimes stormy. It has a very popular lookout and a famous curving road around the hills. It is very popular with local Thai people as they can enjoy the freshly caught seafood and nice views

Durian and tropical fruit

Chanthaburi is famous for tropical fruit, especially durian and mangosteen. These only grow in warm climates and each place has its terroir, the character that comes from the earth. The season is usually May to July. In May there is also a festival when you can try every local variety and enjoy many festivities.
