Oplopiou is the name of the street. At number 3 you will find Omikron, a small, cozy restaurant, the only place I know that is equally good for fish and meat. The sea food will drive you crazy, you want believe the prices too. Also take a stroll in the area, Ladadika, a historical district of Thessaloniki, where the old oil market used to be, now living its second revival with all sorts of restaurants, cafes and bars, nice little cobbled streets, which make it one of Thessaloniki's hot spots.

Sightseeing

Take a stroll by the seafront beginning from the White Tower all the way down to the port. Day (preferably before noon in the summer) or night the promenade is the quintessence of Thessaloniki. One one side is Leoforos Nikis avenue with the buzzing bars and food joints and on the other Thermaikos bay with the port cranes in the horizon creating a magnificent setting at sunset. If the atmosphere is clear you can see Mount Olympus right in front of you.

This is a walk at the recently renovated waterfront. Begin from the White Tower all the way to Macedonia Palace Hotel (east direction, only building on the seafront) for a short walk or to the Music Hall (large brick building to the east direction) for a long walk (quite long up to 4 km). Along the way you will find street merchants, boat-bars that will take you on small cruises to Thermaikos Bay, street musicians, street food and drinks, loooots of dogs, with a leash or stray (don't worry, they don't harm people), joggers, bikers (yeah, you can rent a bike or a quadricycle at Macedonia Palace hotel), sculptures (take a photo at the Umbrellas) and fountains. MUST DO, unless it rains or the sun is high as there is no shelter.

On the north of Thessaloniki lies the Upper or Old Town. Ιt is where the city’s main fortress and other defensive structures (Eptapirgion, Trigonio Tower) were built during the Byzantine and Ottoman period. A large part of the Byzantine Walls that surrounded Thessaloniki have been well preserved, adding to the beauty of the city’s Acropolis. Ano Poli can be reached on foot, if you don’t mind a bit of walking uphill, or by bus. You can take bus No 50 next to the White Tower at an opening designated for tourist buses. Terpsithea Square used to be the courtyard of a tekke (Bektashi monastery) that was possibly founded in 1527 during the reign of Sultan Bayezid II. Now it lies in the heart of a picturesque neighbourhood in Ano Poli, where the Musa Baba Mausoleum, the only hexagonal Ottoman mausoleum that has been entirely preserved in the city, is situated. Take a stroll at the picturesque narrow streets and combine it with neighbouring Tsinari district for food and drinks.

The Tsinari area is a small neighbourhood of the “Old City” (Ano Poli) of Thessaloniki. It was named after the Turkish word “çınar” (plane tree) because there used to be a big plane tree in the area, with a small café built next to it that shared the same name. Nowadays the narrow streets and paved alleys of Tsinari are full of ultra-traditional taverns and create an amazing atmosphere.
