Glad to have you stay at my New York apartment. I think you will find it very charming and convenient.

The keys are waiting for you in a "key drop" holder attached just to the right of the exterior door. There are two key drops. You want the newer looking one on the right. The code is 01789 (the year of the French Revolution :-) )

Set the combination to 01789, then click the top button down. Please ensure you re-lock the box by pushing the door back in (if the little door falls out, just set the code again, push the top button down, and slot the door back in till it locks. Thx!

The silver key is for the front door. The gold key is for the upstairs door. Only use the uppermost lock on the upstairs door.

Inside the apartment i have left you useful information about the apartment, the neighborhood, and New York City.

If there are any problems or questions, or if you need anything (or if for some reason you have any trouble getting into the apartment) my neighbor, Rachel, can help you. she lives only a few blocks away and has an extra set of keys. She knows you’re coming, and you can reach her at:

Rachel Kramer
174 Ludlow #5
New York NY 10002

If any problems arise during your stay, and for some reason you cannot reach me, Rachel will take care of you. She is a problem-solver, and incredibly friendly. Also feel free to contact either of these other nearby neighbors:
Maria Catalan @ (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) m (Maria lives upstairs in #4A/B, and speaks fluent Spanish)

+ You are welcome to eat anything in the house, as well as drink beer, liquor, etc. just replace it with same or equivalent. Also if you can, please recycle. To the right of the garbage can are two bins: Plastic and glass in the top; paper in the bottom.

+ Wireless internet is available -- network: “Vislumbra” pwd: “amorfati”

+ The couch folds out into a second – and very comfortable – bed. if you want to use it, you’ll need to turn the dining room table 90° against the wall.

+ The ceiling lights can be dimmed. The lanterns and strung lights in the livingroom can all be turned on and off. There’s two simple spots: 1) the red button on the power-strip behind the blue couch; 2) the button on the power-strip just to the right of the kitchen garbage can.

+ You can’t adjust the heat per apartment, but things stay reasonably warm

+ Use air-conditioner if you need to. Also the two fans in the bedroom.

+ Fridge is small-ish and not great at keeping ice cream cold :-(

+ The top drawer of the black dresser is available for you; and there’s some room in both bedroom closets to hang your clothes

+ If you can, please water & spray the plants once while you’re here. thank you.

+ Extra sheets and pillow cases are to the right of the bed and in a secure bag under the purple chair. Extra towels are on the bathroom shelves.

+ There’s an iron and a hairdryer and even a hair-curler above the bathroom sink, if you need them.

+ The apartment is surprisingly quiet for New York, but just in case you need it, there’s a “white noise machine” just under the bed on the right side.

+ No smoking, except on the fire escape (and please take the cigarette butts out of the house, too). thank you.

+ If you break anything, please tell me. As they say, “shit happens.” I just like to know.

+ Upon departure… please put used towels in the bathtub, and used sheets on the floor next to the bed. Thank you.

+ On your way out, leave the key(s) in the key-drop downstairs.

+ The TV controllers are in the drawer to the right of the bed. Feel free to use the VCR (DVDs & VHS tapes are in the back of the closet near the dresser). I have very few TV channels (and no cable package), but I do have Apple TV which comes with Netflix, HBO GO, etc. Netfix & HBO do not charge per viewing, so stream anything you want ☺. Apple TV itself does charge, so if you use it, please keep track and leave some dollars to cover it. Thank you.

+ What else? It’s a lovely apartment and a lovely neighborhood. I’m leaving you a list of cool spots in the neighborhood as well as some New York magazines on the kitchen counter to help you out. Also two books, one a great novel set in the neighborhood, the other a book of classic stories about New York. And a list of best NY movies and best NY songs (according to someone) if you really want to get in the groove. And more…

Enjoy! --Andrew

We loved Andrew's place! Great location. Very communicative host. Easy entry & check-out. Real LES experience.

Andrew was excellent to communicate with even though we booked late the evening before our arrival, everything was extremely smooth. LES is my favourite area in NYC at the moment and Andrews place is in the heart of it. His apartment is designed down to the smallest of details so you feel like a real New Yorker. Both beds were very comfortable. And he even left us some bagels for our arrival! Highly recommend.

I don't know what the previous reviewer (Jocelyn) could have been thinking. My wife and I have stayed in a couple dozen Airbnbs over the past few years, and Andrew's place was among the best of them. It was clean, comfortable, and (just like the listing says) charming and cozy. Couldn't imagine a better place to stay in NY/LES. I'd specifically like to call out Andrew, along with his co-host Rachel, for their hospitality. They were extremely responsive as we coordinated how to pick up keys/etc., and provided a lot of very nice and thoughtful touches to help us feel at home in the apartment. You can tell they're real quality people.

We stayed at Andrews place for a week while visiting NYC for a holiday. The apartment was quite large by New York standards and the kitchen was well equipped. The apartment is in a convenient location - shops, restaurants, supermarkets and the subway. We particularly enjoyed the proximity to restaurants on Essex Street and around Nolita. Andrew and his friend Rachel were lovely and communicated well during our stay. On the down sound, the apartment contained a lot of clutter which wasn't accurately shown in the photos. Therefore, the apartment was very dusty so I wouldnt recommend staying if you are sensitive to dust. We also found that there wasn't a lot of space to store suitcases etc because of the amount of stuff that was already in the apartment.

Since the photos on the ad were taken there are a lot more collectibles and shelves on walls, floor, ceilings, etc. This made the already small apartment very cramped and dusty. There were inconsistencies in the listings too like supposedly no pets, but there were white pet hairs all over the place, sofa bed which was listed as being comfortable was not at all, there were lots of yelling out on the streets even at night. We didn't have to use the stove, but if you will be needing it, make sure to ask the host if it works since there are a couple of hot plates on top of them. Check the kitchen photos, you don't see hot plates there. Also we had problems with WiFi not being available, however host took care of the issue. As far as cleanliness of the place, although host was quick to respond to our request of having the place cleaned, wish it didn't have to happen at all in the first place and took time away from our vacation. We paid premium to rent this place we expected excellence. The dusts and pet hair wreaked havoc on our allergies and a couple of our friends developed hives. Beware of the shower since water gets scalding hot at random. The floors were very gritty and sticky and dust balls in every nook and cranny. We appreciate the attentiveness in which the hosts communicated, however, our comfort ranks high on our list when it comes to spending time away from home. The minimalist and clean look of the place as shown on the photos attracted us to this place but unfortunately we were disappointed.

Perfect location? Check. Fully equipped? Check. Reasonable house rules? Check. Cosy as home? Check. I truly couldn't imagine a better place to stay in NYC, or better hosts than Andrew and Rachel. Do yourself a favor, rent this place, and have yourself an unforgettable stay in the Lower East Side.

I'm a writer and activist living in New York City. I love to travel. I try hard to be a generous host, and a responsible guest. I believe hospitality is a sacred commitment. On a good day, I'm funny; on a bad day, philosophical. My New York apartment is warm and cozy, and located in an exciting and historic part of the city. Come stay in my home. I look forward to meeting you. Mi casa es tu casa.
