Stunning artist’s house, award winning, and featured in many magazines, The Ceramic House is a work of art in itself. THE BLUES ROOM is tastefully furnished, with a double futon bed, and fabulous tiled bathroom. Free parking. Coffee/tea in room. Very quiet. Bus stop right outside for easy transport into centre of town or 20 minutes' walk. Fiveways few minutes walk, with shops, cafes, restaurants. Walking/easy access to South Downs and golf course with views along the coast to Worthing Pier.

This is a truly gorgeous house that I have been working hard on turning into a very special space since I moved to Brighton 10 years ago. I am gradually turning the whole house into a work of art and it is filled with ceramic and glass installations inside and out. You need to see it to believe it! You can have a look on the ceramic house website.

There are 4 rooms available. See my other listings for THE GALLERY ROOM, THE CERAMIC HOUSE, A FANTASY WORLD and EN-SUITE LUXURY, THE CERAMIC HOUSE.

FREE PARKING! Right outside the house. This as as close as you can get to central Brighton and still have ample free on street parking.
LOVELY ROOM within a period house with original fixtures
KING SIZE BED with futon mattress
PORTUGUESE BATHROOM, newly refurbished with a walk-in shower with tiles from Portugal and my own range of Portuguese tiles. Please note the bathroom is shared with the Pink Room.
TEA/COFFEE MAKING FACILITIES in the room. We do not provide breakfast, however there are several lovely cafes 5 minutes away at Fiveways.
Lovely linens, furnishings and towels
WIFI in room
BUS STOP OUTSIDE HOUSE for buses straight into town
20 MINUTE WALK into central Brighton
SOUTH DOWNS/COUNTRYSIDE on the doorstep! Hollingbury Golf Course, 5 minutes from the house, brings the country into the city with a finger of green stretching from the South Downs to my house! So walkers can walk straight here off the Downs.

The Blues room has been tastefully decorated with a comfortable futon bed and built in furniture. There is a fabulous Portuguese tiled bathroom right next door. It has been tiled with antique tiles I brought back from Portugal and my own tile designs.

Since I created the first ceramic installation in the loft, I have installed permanent ceramic installations in nearly every room in the house and all over the garden. It is a Gaudiesque world!

The garden is really gorgeous. It is a double height patio with two terraces completely enclosed with mature climbers and flowers including the best rose bower in Brighton! It is a very private, lovely space full of artwork. Most of the garden has been covered with my tiles and there are four different levels all with lovely ceramic tables and chairs. It is quite magical, especially when the sun shines. I also have a garage (currently awaiting conversion into another en-suite) and front and side gardens.

Once a year in May the house turns into a living gallery and I invite renowned ceramic artists to exhibit their work here. At this time of year, the house is open to the public at weekends only, and it is a fun, buzzy time to be here. The pink room is unaffected and a private space during this time. Every May Brighton hosts the second biggest arts festival in the UK (after Edinburgh). There is so much to see and do, art, music, theatre, dance, comedy, etc. And that's not just during the festival, it's all year round!

I love collecting antiques and vintage, so the whole house is furnished with retro/deco/antiques along with many pieces I have collected on my travels. I also collect art and I have a good collection of original prints and paintings and a lot of ceramics around the house.

The house has everything you need including wireless internet of course. Breakfast is not included but there are several good cafes for breakfast within 5 minutes walk. Laundry facilities available for stays of a week or more. Kitchen facilities available for you to do your own cooking for stays of a week or more.

There is plenty of free parking here on my wide spacious street just round the corner from Fiveways, where there is a shop to suit every requirement. As well as all the shops, there are several lovely cafes/delicatessens and there are some great pubs too not far away.
The number 50 bus stops on my street and takes 10 minutes to get into the centre of Brighton. The 50U goes to the Sussex/Brighton University campuses in Falmer. A lot more buses stop at Fiveways. Walking into the city centre takes 20 minutes or it’s just a 5 minute cycle ride.

At the end of my road is Hollingbury Woods and the Golf Course, which is where the South Downs begins...only 5 minutes to the best views in Brighton and nature at its best! I love walking up there. I feel very privileged to have such close access to such fabulous nature.

The South Downs is Britain’s youngest national park and the South Downs Way is a long distance walk and one of Britain’s national trails, running for 100 miles from Winchester to Eastbourne. It is very popular with walkers, and can be travelled on bicycle or horseback.

Brighton has many attractions, including the absolutely over-the-top exuberance of The Royal Pavilion (my favourite), the famous Brighton Pier, the beach (which I go to as often as the sun shines) and I can tell you where the best beaches are. Brighton is great for cycling around, or just walking, taking in the Lanes and the wonderful traditional pubs.

There are so many festivals, there seems to be something happening every weekend, including all kinds of music, comedy, food, film festivals. Brighton is an end-destination for many races and vehicular rallies. Any random day you might see endless arrivals of minis or VWs or vintage cars or bikes… There is also the London to Brighton bike ride every year. All these events all end up on Madeira Drive, a promenade along the beach.

I can give you all the information you need if you are an art lover. The Brighton festival every May is a must-go-to experience. The Brighton Photo Bienniale is the biggest photography festival in Europe.

Brighton is a great place to explore the south coast and London. There are several fabulous art galleries along the coast, including the brand new Jerwood at Hastings, the Towner at Eastbourne and the Turner Contemporary at Margate. All of these places are great for day trips, among many more.

Gatwick airport is 30 minutes on the train from Brighton and Newhaven has ferries to France.

Brighton has two universities. The 50U bus goes to both at Falmer straight from my street. Sussex University is 2 minutes on the train from Moulsecombe, about 5 minutes from London Road. Both stations are 15 minutes walk from the house. Buses from Lewes Road, 10 minutes walk. Brighton University has a campus in Falmer next to Sussex Uni and various other sites, varying between 15 and 30 minutes walk depending on which site. Buses to all sites from Stanmer Villas/Fiveways.

You are most welcome to have a look around the house apart from the other private rooms. There is artwork to see everywhere. The garden has several patios with tables on each one that you are welcome to use, and there is a balcony off the kitchen which is very cosy and a sun trap with another table and chairs. The living room and the kitchen are available to use if you stay 5 nights or more.

I am always available to help. If I am not here, you can reach me by phone or email.

There may be other guests staying in the house as I rent out 3 rooms, so please be considerate. It is a quiet space and you will be very comfortable here. My mottos are to be surrounded by beauty at all times and attention to detail, and you will see evidence everywhere! My other motto is that I specialise in enthusiasm so you will be assured of a warm welcome!

No smoking in the house. Smoking in the garden is fine however.
Noise must be kept to a minimum after 9 pm. Dogs are welcome depending, so please check!

Such a beautiful home with comfortable amenities. About 5 minutes walk to delicious restaurants and shops and a nice hiking trail. Thirty minute walk to national rail services to London and elsewhere. Very close to other public transportation as well. Kay and Joe are wonderful, thoughtful hosts who are always available to answer questions and provide assistance with anything. Definitely would stay here again!

Lovely house and the room was very nice and cosy, with lots of interesting books and a record collection to peruse, and art hanging everywhere. Good location in a quiet area - it's a bit out of the city centre, but easily walkable and there was a regular bus service (though we just walked everywhere). We didn't get to meet Kay in person but she was really helpful and communicative. Highly recommended!

Stayed at Kay's for Brighton pride weekend. Her house is beautiful and artistic. Rooms are uniquely decorated, quiet and comfortable. We stayed in the 'Blues Room' which was lovely. Tea and Coffee making facilities provided in the room. Kay's communication was top class and she provided us with plenty of information beforehand about how far away attractions were and transport links. Kay was a welcoming, friendly and accommodating host; we would definitely stay again

The Ceramic house is simply stunning ....i have stayed here about 5 time now and always try to book it when I'm coming to Brighton. Kay is a great host and always makes sure that everything is OK for me, even when she isn't in town that weekend. She provides lots of info about how to get into/out of town, good restaurants ref and who else will be in the house. Can't think of anything she could do differently to make the experience better!

Hyggeligt, personligt hus som ligger tæt på offentlig transport. Kay var fantastisk at kommunikere med, så selvom hun ikke var hjemme under mit ophold forløb alt problemfrit.
