17 miles from Moab. Will take one hour. Take the road between Burger King and McDonalds. At stop sign go straight. River on right. Black top ends. Follow signs that say Hurrah Pass. You don't need four wheel drive but you should have some ground clearance. Without it your vehicle will have an inappropriate relationship with Mother Earth. If height is an issue you will have lots of issues up and down Hurrah. We are 2.7 miles down Hurrah. Turn right at Base Camp sign and come to the lodge.

Base Camp and Last Hurrah are remote. Similar landscape to Canyonlands, without all the people. Lots of big horn and mule deer. Boat dock, boat ramp, and beach. Three side by sides, six kayaks, and amazing hiking and climbing. Disc golf course with fearsome reputation. Fossils, dinosaur tracks, Indian artifacts, petroglyphs, finger canyons, and center to the Jackson Hole trail, Chicken Corner, Lockhart Basin, Hurrah Pass, and close to the Wind Caves and all the bicycle trails on the Amasa Back. View of Dead Horse Point, Canyonlands, Anti-Cline, and beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Large security tortoise, all kinds of squirrels, chipmunks, birds, and in the evenings ringtails, skunks (you can pet them....sometimes), raccoons, and fox come to the porch to eat. The night sky is amazing. It's doubtful you've ever seen so many stars and the Milky Way is a nightly occurrence for much of the year.

You have free access to the beach, the river, kayaks, hiking, climbing and our breakeven for the side by sides is about $65 a day. With the side by sides you can visit the Wind Caves, Jackson Hole, Chicken Corner, and tour all up and down the side of the Colorado River. You can kayak by the beach up river or round the island. Once a week I go to town for groceries and if we coordinate our schedules I can drop you off in town and a four hour kayak back to the lodge.

I frequently hike in the morning and the evening. You are free to come along. Land of the Skinny People is a mud maze from millions of years ago. Two Trains gives you a view of both sides of Hurrah Pass. Three Fingers will take you into finger canyons at the bottom of the Anti-Cline. Boulder Canyon is where we most frequently see big horn sheep. Stairway to Heaven is a ledge intensive hike again at the bottom of the Anti-Cline. The Rock Garden is a two hour hike through varied terrain of all types. When I'm free I'm happy to go on these events with you and if not I'll give you a hand drawn accurate map and a walkie talkie and guide you.

In general, when guests show up I give them options of various things to do and then make it happen. However, a lot of guests come out because they want to enjoy the peace and are completely happy just watching the occasional raft, kayak, or tour boat come up and down the river with a beautiful landscape background.

This place is AMAZING!!!! Make sure you have a sense of adventure, you will need it. Private, secluded, and just away from everything. I loved it!!! Tom is a great host. Make sure you have a high clearance vehicle. It's an adventure

This was one of the most unique, secluded, and scenic places I have ever been to. The adventure started on the drive down (definitely heed Tom's advice of having a high clearance vehicle.. I'd also say a four wheel drive would be the way to go) and continued throughout our stay. Tom is a fantastic host and his place is awesome.

What a killer set up. The "treacherous" drive in will keep away some but that was fine by me to keep the crowds away. The hogan is adjacent to another guest house and another hogan so it's not completely private, but it's oriented away from the other two so we had plenty of solitude. (The shower and outhouse is shared with the other hogan.) The hogan was as big as a large bedroom and fit our family well. (We are two parents and two girls ages 8 and 10 and one dog.) There were single futon mattresses that we could lay out how we wanted, a new mini-fridge, overhead lighting, heaters, and fans. (Solar electricity). There is running water (non-potable) in the outhouse/shower. Tom supplied drinking and cooking water in jugs. Great private patio right out front with spectacular views. Tom's adding more supplies to the hogan - towels, sleeping bags, flatware, etc, - as he's added this property to his adjacent lodge this year so ask for specifics when booking. Tom was super helpful and accommodating in trying to get anything we wanted or needed. Beautiful hiking/scrambling right out the front door was a family favorite. The side x side (Polaris ATVs) off-road down to Wind Caves and Chicken Corners is a must and Tom rents them for pennies. Didn't try the disc golf course, but that's for next time... And if you don't like any of the reasons I've supplied for coming, you should come just to meet Kobe (sp?) his security tortoise. Pure awesomeness.

What an incredible experience. Loved staying in the hogan. Truly off the beaten path and exactly what we were looking for. Kayaking and using the side by sides were our highlights. But of course dinner overlooking our private canyon was amazing as well.

This place is rad! If you're looking for an authentic Moab experience away from the tourist traps, this is it! Tom has so much knowledge of the area and can set you on your way no matter what your interests are. He'll even go with you as a guide if you'd like. His property is right off the Colorado river and there is plenty of hiking and exploring to be had. Tom was great with communication and more than accommodating with travel arrangements. As a female traveling solo, he made me feel safe and comfortable and always made sure I returned from my adventures. I can't wait to go back! Definitely recommend!
