The Escalante Yurts are tucked up on a piece of land just outside of the main part of the town of Escalante. The scenery is picture perfect. When we arrived (about 4:30pm), Jan was all ready for us and took us on a tour of our yurt. We stayed in the Aspen yurt, with one king bed and a pullout sofa. The yurt was emmaculately clean, with modern furniture and a very creative touch. Each yurt is equipped with a gas powered heater that can be set based on your preference. The heater is very quiet and works quickly. We had gone on a hike prior to arriving at the yurt and so we showered and spent some time unpacking. The bathroom has shampoo, body wash, etc. Towels are soft and water pressure was great. We spent the evening eating dinner and having a glass of wine on the deck of the yurt. When we walked the grounds that evening we saw a group of deer walking through.
In terms of sleeping: the bed and linens were incredibly soft and comfortable. It was very quiet and we slept great. However- if you are a light sleeper, you might consider bringing a pair of ear plugs. The yurts are not made to be completely sound proof and outdoor sounds might wake you.
When you wake, breakfast will be ready for you! Jan leaves homemade scones from a local baker in your room, along with fruit, granola bars, and yogurt. Such a nice touch.
We chose this location as it is really central to all the great hiking! One day we were by calf creek falls, the next out on hole in the rock road, and then the third closer to Bryce Canyon. You truly cannot be in a better location to experience lots of what Grande Staircase Escalante National Monument has to offer.
Overall, I would give Escalante Yurts my highest recommendation. It was such a lovely, friendly place to stay. The yurts and grounds were beautiful and Jan and her husband Scott are fantastic hosts. We will definitely be back! My advice for future guests would be to book early because this place is going to be discovered quickly and will fill up!!
