Ishwar and his wife are delightful , generous people. The apartment advertised wasn't available but the same on the ground floor was so that is where we stayed. The house is beyond a gate which is locked at night (you have a key) so there is no traffic noise. We never heard anything from the suite above. The house has two apartments and the top two floors are the family's house. A gate for their compound is always locked. It's completely secure, plus you have a lockable cupboard. The neighborhood is friendly and easy to walk, cafes and shops, but all local. No touristy stuff. There is a slate lined path from the neighborhood though to Thamel, (10-15 minutes) away from car traffic. Huge bonus.
The space itself is huge. One room for a bed, desk, couch and coffee table and wardrobe. Wall mounted TV with lots of English options. Wifi modem in the room, excellent coverage. The kitchen is massive, basic but functional with table and chairs , water dispenser, gas stove, big fridge. Our suite had a back door to a little sunny spot and garden. The bathroom has a window, solar heated water, western toilet. We never had power or water issues this trip, which is unusual for Kathmandu, hopefully this will continue. We were invited to dinner with the family, extremely generous. It was lovely. The family dog deserves a mention. Never barks, very smart, and gentle. This is unbelievable value, a huge apartment, where you can self cater, feel secure, live like a local, yet be minutes away from Thamel. We feel lucky to have had our stay and connection with our new Nepali friends, Ishwar and Dilu. This is what Airbnb was meant to be.
