You will be picked up by a comfortable modern vehicle. We will travel in a small group for 25 minutes to the location . Once kitted up with headlights and red night torches we will begin a 2 km walk through the darkness of a native New Zealand forest. Along the way we will encounter towering trees and cascading waterfalls, giant silver ferns lighting up like fire works . The highlight would have to be the glowworms as breath taking as our clearest night sky. You will be able to get up close and fully understand this amazing creature. No two nights are ever the same. Farm & Animal Feeding Tour
As you drive up the circular driveway, we'll welcome you to our little farm. We'll give you some farm boots to use during your experience. First, you'll be taken to meet our friendly pony, iconic wool sheep & goats. They will come up to you for a pat and are happy to pose for a selfie/photo. Next well take a walk to see the ducks and rare breed chickens. Then it's a short walk to see the beautiful Hororhoro Bluff mountains, with friendly goats following along. Take some photos of the stunning farmland views. Then we'll walk through the orchard to be met by our mini horse and lager horses and scottish highland cattle. Lamb and calf feeding are available if we have orphan animals. Then you can feed the horses, cows, chickens, ducks, baby animals, turkeys, goats. Another nice chance to interact with the animals and take some photos. Egg collecting, fruit, or nut picking may be available in season. 100 percent of the proceeds of this tour go back to our rescue and farm animals. Piha Expedition
This is the only way to get the most out of your visit to the wild Piha beach! Meet our group at The Pantry Cafe on Auckland's Viaduct basin. Grab your coffee/breakfast before we embark on our Piha Expedition. Relax in our luxurious Mercedes Sprinter van as we wind our way through the ranges towards the famous Piha. Stopping at some of the most scenic and high altitude lookouts Auckland has to offer. Upon arrival at Piha, we observe the severe flood damage as we venture onto the wild black sand beach at the North and South ends to explore the landscapes. We walk among the towering cliffs to find hidden tracks through the native forest. We carefully navigate many a massive sea cave and natural tunnels surrounding the areas. We will see native wildlife such as the Tui's and watch the colourful Rosellas in the forest, then we discover Little Blue Penguins deep in the caves. If we are lucky we will spot a Seal or Sea Lion! Professionally guided by your passionate, qualified and safety conscious tour guide. Full transport between all locations, Healthy snacks, fresh fruit and cold water are provided. Combo Animal Feeding & Wool making
Would you like to spend some relaxing time with our friendly animals in the stunning volcanic backdrop of the Upper Atiamuri countryside. We have highland cattle, specialty wool sheep, horses, ponies, goats, chickens, ducks & more. Many of which are rescues. We'll take a stroll to meet and feed the animals and take some photos so you can remember this special experience. We'll be happy to explain some of the history of the area and talk about NZ farming, and a few stories along the way. I'm happy to answer any questions you have too. After many requests for a combination of our tours, this is a combination of two of our most popular. You will be able to take part in a hands on wool processing demonstration and interact with many farm animals and help to feed and pat them. We are proud that we are not a tourist farm, and can provide an authentic experience that will allow you to experience the NZ farm lifestyle and learn a bit more about the animals that we care for and experience the stunningly beautiful Atiamuri landscape. Sheep Farm Tour & Woolly Farm-Hat Gift
When you arrive on our beautiful farm and meet our friendly, naturally coloured Corriedale sheep & lambs. Followed by an explanation of how wool is shorn from the sheep, skirted, washed & dried. Next, guests will select their choice of wool, alpaca, lama and other fibres to card into large batts of fibre that are ready to process by spinning them into wool. After a spinning demonstration, guests will be able to practise spinning the fibre into their own ball of wool to take with them. If time allows they can try knitting or weaving and have a short walk around the farm to meet the other animals. This experience is suitable for beginners with no previous experience needed. Children can attend, just advise the age of the child, as I'll organise a child friendly wool activity for them. I'd like to make sure you have a fun, relaxing & unique experience that you will always remember. The scenery is spectacular and I am happy to take photos of you around the farm and with the animals. You can even select your own farm made hat as a free souvenir. Each hat is handcrafted, organically processed and shorn from our own sheeps wool, hand made and over 20 hours of work in each one. On arrival you will be greeted by Hilda, Dylan, the gate keeper kitten's and your smiley craft expert Lori. ​While sipping tea or coffee you will be shown various felting techniques and there will be a brief overview of the slipper making process while the cats decide on which music to set the mood. You will be guided through the felt-making process in a beginner style step-by-step. After we have laid out our wool, we will decorate the surface. EARTHBOUND HONEY BEEKEEPING FOR BEGINNERS Have you ever considered what it takes or what it would be like to become a beekeeper ? Are you or a family member thinking about purchasing a beehive and wondering where you could take a look inside a beehive to see if its for you ? Beekeeper for a day taster course is a basic beekeeping course for people who have never been around or handled live bees. You will get to tag along side husband and wife beekeeping team at Earthbound and ask any questions you have before you taking the plunge and buying expensive beekeeping tools and equipment and bees. The topics we cover are: Safety First – personal protective equipment and bee stings. Legislation – what you need to know about complying with beekeeping bio-security requirements. The Beekeepers tools and equipment – smokers, hive tools, beehive parts. Everything you will need and where to get it. Hands on experience – open a beehive and handle live bees. Find the queen and observe the life cycle of honeybees. The cost is $195.00 per person. Children must be 16 years and over and accompanied by an adult. We require a 50% deposit prior to accepting your booking. This deposit is non-refundable. Course times approx 10am to 1.30 pm.
