Come and discover one of the best days out in the New Forest and visit this artillery fortress built by Henry VIII. With plenty of open space for children to explore and fantastic views of the Isle of Wight, Hurst Castle is a must for visitors to this area. The heart of the castle – Henry VIII’s Tudor keep – remains open whilst English Heritage coordinates a major project to protect the east and west wings, which remain closed. The price of admission has been reduced accordingly. For more information on the project, see English Heritage Hurst Castle is managed by Hurst Marine on behalf of English Heritage, who care for over 400 historic monuments, buildings and places.

Hurst castle is a lovely destination for a walk and there is a little ferry that you can take if you don't fancy the walk. In the summer you can swim at the beach. There is usually an ice cream van at the bridge by the start of the spit so you can get a little treat and eat it on the beach enjoying the views. To the south is the Isle of Wight, to the west you can see the channel and over to Poole and to the east you can see down the Solent to Cowes and Portsmouth. Highly recommended.

Hurst castle was built by Henry the 8th and is at the end of a 1.5 mile shingle spit. It can be a tiring walk but you can get a boat back - check timings!
