I have been visiting the Kaziranga Biodiversity Park since 2017. On each successive visit, there are new additions and the park seems to only look better. My most recent visit was in November 2021. The trip highlight for me was the orchidarium. It had specimens of both the largest and smallest known varieties. But what added considerable value was a well-versed staff member who gave us a detailed overview. She also showed us two carnivorous plant species -- namely the pitcher plant and the Venus fly trap. When we moved on to the museum, that has artifacts belonging to Assam’s numerous indigenous tribes, we were once again greeted by a knowledgeable gentlemen. Of the many exhibits there were, the crossbow caught my attention. Now, Assam and Australia are several thousand miles apart. But the crossbow used in northeastern India was uncannily similar to what the aboriginal people in Australia used. The images section in the museum has pictures of the earliest discovered relic in Assam. It was dated to the Neolithic Period. Another interesting picture that the curator explained to us was about two vintage guns. The story goes that the guns had been stolen from Sher Shah Suri. He was a monarch who'd once ruled over the Delhi Sultanate. The guns were discovered buried during an excavation in Assam. The biodiversity park also has a dedicated section for medicinal plants, one for cacti, and still another for diverse varieties of bamboo. Cultural programmes take place each evening from 6:30 pm onwards. Coincidentally, we made it in time for a brief one that began at about 4:30 pm. The park's restaurant serves traditional Assamese cuisine. It will appeal to most palettes since the flavours are mild. There isn't much usage of strong spices. There are also several souvenir shops at the park entrance. They sell traditional garments, decoratives, fridge magnets as alsolocally grown black rice, red rice and sticky rice. There is Assam tea and organic pepper available too.
