Located right next to the cathedral, it's often open to the public so walk inside to get full experience of stain glass windows that include not only Christian figures but icons of literature, philosophy, government and science.

The Heinz Memorial Chapel began as a gift. Henry John Heinz, the founder of the H.J. Heinz Company, wanted to honor his mother, Anna Margaretta Heinz, with “a building” at the University. When the cornerstone of the chapel was laid in 1934, University Chancellor John Bowman said, “The Chapel is designed as a fitting center for worship which in various ways will rise at the University. The character, intensity, the level of that worship may change from generation to generation. The spiritual tide in men rises and falls. Through these changes, though, the Chapel will stand, calm and undisturbed.”

Heinz Chapel is a historic landmark located on the University of Pittsburgh campus, sharing the green quad with the Cathedral of Learning. Henry J. Heinz (yes, of the ketchup and Heinz products fame!), bequeathed funds for the Chapel and construction began in 1934. Charles Z. Klauder of Philadelphia designed the building in a neo-Gothic style. The chapel’s modified cruciform plan, stone vaults, high ceilings, repeated arches, and extensive use of glass are typical of American academic and religious architecture from about 1900 until after World War II.
