Edith Carter started this village with her husband, Hill, in Ferguson, North Carolina to preserve a part of the area’s rich history. Edith, a retired teacher, was driven to educate visitors about the events that have taken place and shaped the Yadkin Valley. They offer tours and activities that provide those out of classroom learning opportunities for students of all ages. By understanding the past, we are better able to prepare for the future.

Every 3rd Saturday between April and October, this historic village is open from 1-5:00. Visitors will learn about two famous local men: Daniel Boone (had a home here for 21 years) and Tom Dooley (from the famous ballad: Hang Down Your Head...). The 3rd Saturday in May from 10-5:00 is the Tom Dooley Festival. The 3rd Saturday in September is the Daniel Boone Festival. Both events have live music, storytelling, a blacksmith at work, weaving demonstrations, local authors present, demonstration of Appalachian Toys, a art exhibit, clogging and much more!
