The Chateau at Amboise is one of the iconic Chateaux of France. It has close associations with Francoise 1st of France and close by was the home of Leonardo De Vinci. Clos Lucè.
Surrounded by landscaped gardens, this highly significant site in the history of France also houses an exceptional collection of Gothic and Renaissance furniture.
The chateau is high up and worth visiting but so is the town. Cool clothes shops, cobbled streets, good food and happy vibe. I love going there. Cool Sunday market, largest in France they claim...
“The childhood home of Francois 1er and where the king invited Leonardo da Vinci to live. He died here in 1519 and is buried in a small chapel on the terrace of the Chateau of Amboise. Clos Lucé has scale reproductions of Leonardo's many inventions, created by IBM engineers.”

“Its not really the chateau that we recommend, although beautiful, it is the stunning gardens. Laid out like a glorified 'potager' with formal planting, mixed with garden veg and flowers. A large lake with swans and a garden with perennial flowers, more like an English garden. Plenty of walks with stunning views over the garden. ”
