Set stone & solder a handcrafted ring
In this beginner Silversmithing class, you will pick out your own stone and create the setting and shank. We'll get familiar with the torch, jeweler's saw, flex shaft drill, anvil & bench pin.
We'll solder the bezel, cut out the setting and file it flat. Then we create your ring shank according to your own size and add them together.
We'll finish your ring by setting the stone and polishing the piece. All finished work is sterling silver and you get to go home with a brand new ring.
Patience is required. No experience necessary.
*Other things to note*
Please dress for the occasion! We'll be sawing metal and using messy materials. Don't wear anything dangly and please have closed toe shoes on. This activity is hands on and messy! Also to note: long fingernails could make this a little harder, but doable!
*there are good dogs on site.*
**PLEASE NOTE: I don't have the space for more than two people at a time for this experience, this is my home studio and it's pretty small. Also PLEASEEEEE NO ON LOOKERS- whomever has paid for the experience, can arrive. That goes for parents as well.**
Ring make-and-take with local artist
We'll get comfortable in our studio barn/workshop area, where you'll grab a glass of homemade wine from our organic orchard, wildcrafted herbal tea, and/or fruit-infused spring water from our bar before we get started. Once everyone is settled with a beverage, I'll do a quick demonstration to show you the techniques and procedures for making several different styles of rings. Then you'll get busy working hands-on with different tools and materials to create your own custom, unique ring exactly to your liking. I can provide as much support as necessary to help you to feel comfortable with the process and to create your desired outcome. We'll seal/finish your ring if necessary and you'll take it home with you at the end of the session. For those who are interested, you will also have an opportunity to tour our urban homestead and be immersed in the many endeavors we have going.
Other things to note:
-We have free-range chickens and 2 outdoor farm cats. All are friendly. :)
-If you aren't seeing the date or time you'd like available on the calendar, feel free to send me a message and we'll try to work something out if possible!
-In order to maintain the very intimate nature of this experience and the value for all guests, we typically do not allow non-participating onlookers. Please ensure you book a slot for all members of your party so we can be adequately prepared for you.

You will taste the perfect Cuban coffee, experience smoking a cigar like a native cuban, and learn the Cuban cigar ritual—from the old way of lighting it to the proper way to smoke it and make a wish at the Sacred CEIBA Tree. These are rituals that have been passed down and traveled overseas through generations from Cuba to here in Miami. Also, we'll take a cultural walking exploration around the famous landmarks of Little Havana.

Goat Hike Along the Ol' Miners' Trail
“Valerie is an awesome host, she made the whole experience very fun and delightful. She is great at bringing the group of strangers together in such a short time. And the goats are just fantastic.”
We begin our goat hike at the STAGE STOP, 20 minutes West of Boulder. After introducing ourselves, some Western lore, and the "girls" (goats), we'll start our hike of 2.4 miles through the historic living museum beginning with the Cloud City mining district. I’ll tell stores from the miners’ journals as I point out relics from their lives and mines. You will be selfing with the goats, taking panoramic pics of the mountain scenery and enjoying the mountain climb.
You'll be seeing old mine portals, the school house and root cellar, stone walls, gold mine tunnels and stone cabin foundations. The land reveals many secrets of the past that I'll be sharing them with you.
Along the way there is time for water and breathing. Depending on group size and weather, the famous Downhill Goat Race will conclude our adventure. Each hiker steers his/her goat down the hillside to the winner’s circle. Back to the STAGE STOP, where we began, I'll offer lunch ideas and local adventures you might enjoy. Then we bid adieu.
"The hike with Valerie and her goats was the highlight of our trip. Her location and stories offer everything to experience the real beauty and history of Colorado."
