La Jolla Bay is a Marine Protected Area that is home to a thriving ecosystem that boasts a high concentration of sea life, has a natural boat launch, which allows safe ocean entry year-round, and is famous for its Sea Caves and Marine Reserve. No experience is required. Great for all skill levels. Your guide will kick things off with a paddle tutorial on the beach. If surf exists, we will help push your kayak through any breakers. As we paddle through La Jolla’s Marine Reserve keep an eye out for Seals, Sea Lions, Sea Turtles, Pelicans, Dolphin and Gray whales in the fall/winter. Note: We cannot guarantee sea life. If conditions are safe, we will help guide your kayak into Emerald Cave. If it's not safe to enter Emerald Cave, we will still paddle out & explore La Jolla's World-Famous Marine Reserve. Note: if not safe we WILL NOT enter the Emerald Cave, we don't cancel if the cave isn't safe and spend about a minute inside. La Jolla Bay is an Uncontrollable Environment. Meet your instructor in the beach parking lot, get geared up in the wetsuit provided for you, and head to the sand with your (provided) surfboard. There, you will enjoy a full-body stretch and maybe some breathwork to prepare for the adventure. Intimidated by the title of the class? Don't be! Move at your own pace! Classes are catered to all levels of ability. Class begins on the sand with a land lesson that includes brief paddle instruction and discussion how to use equipment and be on the water safely. From there once students are feeling comfortable and secure we paddle out up wind and along the shore and find a safe space to drop anchor and conduct class. Students are then led through approximately 45-60 minutes of yoga poses catered to a paddle board. Then we paddle back calmly drifting down wind back to where we began, on the shoreline. Evening classes are timed with the sunset

We will be snorkeling in Mission Bay, a calm, flat body of water that feeds into the Pacific Ocean. Being in the bay, we typically encounter small fish, interesting algae, and lots of invertebrates, including sea slugs, octopus, urchins, and sea stars! After a brief safety and snorkel etiquette talk, we will explore the area for one hour. I will point out and provide detailed information on the flora and fauna we encounter during the experience! *If you are a non-swimmer, feel free to book a private tour and/or message me to see if this is the right experience for you. Sometimes guests can be overwhelmed by the water, but this is the perfect place to learn! We will meet in North Pacific Beach in the morning or afternoon to talk about the surf conditions. Then we will walk down to the beach together. Next I will give a land lesson on the basics of surfing, we will practice different pop-up techniques so you're more comfortable in the water. Then we will go out into the water and I will help you get some waves and start surfing! Afterwards we'll carry the boards back to where we started. You will help us free fly our falcons on the cliffs of La Jolla at the Torrey Pines Gliderport, a National Historical Place and beloved landmark. In our Experience, offered through Total Raptor Experience San Diego, you'll learn how to call and release one of our trained birds using a falconry glove, and admire their aerial skills while they soar above the cliffs. You'll get an up-close and personal view of their mastery of flight as they perform simulated hunting behaviors, swooping, ground-skimming and diving at high speed after a moving target. At the same time we will discuss raptor flight styles and how they contribute to the diverse ecologies of different types of hawks and falcons. There will be plenty of time for questions and pictures with our birds. My hope is to send you home with a new, or perhaps renewed, love for these majestic predators and the environment. This area is covered by the ocean half of the day- during high tide- and the pools are exposed at low tide, which creates a unique, yet fragile, habitat for lots of small invertebrates and fish! At our meeting spot, I will give you a brief talk on safety and tide pool rules, as all San Diego tide pools have a strict "no collection" policy. Once we understand how to tide pool safely and respectfully, the adventure begins!
