Charming restaurant with its own art gallery is in a “real” Roman neighborhood . It is unlike the noisy surrounding restaurants in that it offers well-thought out inventive dishes made from the best ingredients sourced throughout Italy (such as sopressata from Calabria, organic pecorino from an Abruzzi national park and salami from Friuli). The restaurant offers a world class wine selection, a lovely proprietor, and a friendly and helpful staff.

If you are looking for relaxed drink and a bite to eat away from touristy madness with a hip ambiance its worth considering Necci. Really great decor and good music. Great tastes for both appetizers (Polpette di Melanzane and Fiori di Zucca were both delicious), and first courses . The place is very authentic and has a beautiful garden full of local parents and kids running around.

Great food, great price, great service. Service is good and very quick. Menu is simple but tasty. Try bruchetta for stater and then enjoy very good Roman pizza. Also house red wine is very good choice. Open for lunch and dinner. Great for a break during the visit of the Colosseum and the Roman Forum

Small but very quaint place. A place to eat excellent Roman specialties (not tourist) at a fair price. At lunch you can go quietly without reservations. Discouraged the evening for dinner, they do not take reservations and is much more crowded. Recommended artichokes alla romana - Carciofi alla Romana - (delicious) as a starter and a pasta (carbonara or cheese-and-pepper - Cacio e Pepe-, both very good) as the first .. If you want to exaggerate the second Coda alla Vaccinara.

Fantastic organic trattoria, great place, great hospitality. The most exciting restaurant in south-east side of Rome. The atmosphere is cosy and you feel home at once when you enter Dar Parucca. The food is fantastic and the service excellent, it's a friendly place and the best thing is that there's no boring menu, you can make your choice reading on a nice blackboard where you can also see the prices, very clear and efficient. Wine? Wine! Real italian wine in real old-fashioned bottles, no boring labels to read, it's a charmy certified country wine from the surroundings of Rome. The dessert was also delicious,.

Arts & Culture

in the foundations of this late-Renaissance building, roman villas belonging to wealthy families have been discovered. The obligatory guided tour (Italian, English, French, German and Spanish) is supplemented by fantastic, thrilling and captivating screen shows reconstructing these villas and the daily lives of the romans, all recounted with the voice of Piero Angela (at least in Italian). I strongly recommend this, you won’t be disappointed. The ticket costs 13.50 E for the full price ticket and 9.50 concessions. Book online on ticketone.it How to get there: bus

this Basilica is considered the “mother of all the churches in the world”. It’s worth a visit to admire the inside which was created by Borromini, the magnificent 16th century panelled wood ceiling, the amazing frescoes and above all the suggestive papal altar. Don’t miss a visit to the cloister, a work of art in Cosmatesque style. Entrance cost: Basilica: free Cloister: 2.00 E

just a short walk from Termini Station, in this 19th century building in Renaissance Revival (or neo Renaissance) style, the Museo Nazionale Romano houses one of the most important collections of classical art in the world. On the fourth floor of this museum, sculptures, frescoes, mosaics, coins and jewellery demonstrate the evolution of Rome’s artistic culture. Here we can admire the exquisite frescoes from the rooms of LiviaDrusilla and the reconstruction of some of the rooms in the roman villa of Farnesina. Note that with just one ticket (valid for 3 days) you can visit 4 places, each as interesting as the next. (Palazzo Massimo, Palazzo Altemps, Crypta Balbi, Terme di Diocleziano) Tickets: Full price 7.00 E Concessions 3.50 E

These catacombs are not very famous yet but they are a delight to visit. This is the site of many ancient cemeteries, the oldest of which dates back to Roman times and hosts the bones of the famous Miltes Singulares Augusti, the Emperor's select personal bodyguards. Later on other burials took place here, for a total of almost 3,000 bodies. During the visit you don't actually get to see the skeletons...well, only a few, from a distance but what you do see are the beautiful frescoes and the several underground tunnels that revolve around a small paleo-christian chapel. All of this is hidden away under a park used daily by local joggers! It is necessary to book in advance and the Catacombs are only open at weekends. The price is very reasonable and, at only about 6 euros, well worth it.
