The city on the Rhine unfolds in the Advent season a very special charm. In the middle of the city center, nestled in the pre-Christmas decorated historic old town, is the picturesque Christmas market on the Barfüsserplatz and on the Cathedral Square (Münster). On the latter is a magnificent, decorated by the well-known decorator Johann Wanner Christmas tree. On the Claraplatz in Kleinbasel you will also find a fine culinary offer in the Sennenhütte.

The Swiss artist had black asphalt poured into a shallow basin before placing these low power-operated, water-spouting objects in it. These nine iron eminences are in constant motion and “talk” to each other just as did the mimers, actors and dancers who once performed at this very spot. Museum Tinguely shows a varied temporary exhibition programme that seeks dialogue with other artists, art forms and disciplines, promising an interactive museum experience for all of the sense

The striking border triangle building is the result of an architectural competition to which Swiss, German and French architects were invited in 1990. On the first floor of the futuristic building are a bar, an event room and a terrace with a border-spanning view of the Rhine. In summer, the "sand oasis" on the ground floor invites guests to relax. The beach area with its sand, palm trees and cocktail bar makes for a holiday atmosphere. An ideal way to discover the border triangle is a harbour tour with the Basler Personenschifffahrt cruise company. Or explore the Rhine in and around Basel on a “Rhytaxi” water taxi.
