Parks & Nature

The country roads around Mica offer lovely walks and bike rides. There are two circuit walks from Mica that take in the rolling hills and grazing farm life, and a longer bike ride to Wallendbeen Hotel. For a 4km ramble, head out the gate and down Bungola Road, turn left at the end onto Colorado Road, take the first left onto Nubba South Road and left again onto Cooringle Road. Alternatively, for a 7km circuit walk, head down Bungola Road, then turn right onto Colorado Road, turn right again onto Cooringle Road and wind your way back to Mica. For a 20km return bike ride, turn left out the gate and then left again at the end of Cooringle Road. Go past the old, now deconsecrated, Nubba church and head down to the level railway crossing. Turn right onto Back Nubba Road. Continue to the end of the road, turn left, then cross the Olympic Highway. Wallendbeen is there on your right with its sleepy village and historic pub. Enjoy a drink on the iron lace veranda overlooking the park.

Built 1908 and 1911, this Federation Romanesque style homestead was inhabited by George Henry Greene, landowner, grazier, and politician. Take a picnic and enjoy lunch on the lawn or locally roasted coffee as well as exploring the house and stables. The castle is listed on the New South Wales State Heritage Register and has open days throughout the year.

Guests have told us they’ve placed coins on the tracks and the trains have created unique pressed mementos of Nubba, created by the trains you see winding through the foothills of the mountains from Mica.
