bars

Your closest local bar, and one of SF's finest original establishments. The drinks are still reasonably priced, beware the drink sizes are close to double what is typical. Regardless, if you are here to drink, try one of their martinis, we like ours dirty. But the best part is the open mic with live piano in the back room. Beware, only professionals dare sign up, the talent is top, so unless you are practiced this may be more of a spectator sport for most. Tip: some bar tenders will allow a half order if you ask nicely, but not always.

Food scene

I love this place. Food and drinks are excellent. One of SF's older and ever excellent establishments, opened in 1979. Get a drink after work on a sunny day and watch through their large street facing windows as the locals hustle on by. The busiest bicycle intersection in North America is at Valencia and Market and on Fridays the bikers come in packs.

Neighborhoods

The closest and best neighborhoods in SF.
The hippest scene in SF, take Valencia from Market to 24th and left to Potrero Ave, or hook a right at 18th and check out Dolores Park on a sunny day. From the top of Dolores park you will find excellent views of SF, smoking and drinking are, for the most part, tollorated. Great playground for kids, tennis courts, and weekend events in the summer time, which in SF is Sept-Oct . :)

Gay Capitol of the US? Be your own judge, but definitely check it out, it's open for all sexual orientations. keep an eye out for the occasional naked man going for a stroll.

Just across Market street, take Octavia a few blocks until you reach Hayes St. There you will find great food, ice cream shops galore, and higher end boutique fashion and home decor shops.
