Try something very Danish: Smørrebrød (don't try to pronounce it!) which is basically pieces of rye bread with different stuff on top. Try it at Cafe Dyrehaven which is also a great place to enjoy a beer.

Mad & Kaffe is a great and popular place for brunch where you can put together your own brunch, but get there early if you wanna catch a table outside in the sun or reserve a table inside. The lunch is good as well and they got the international stuff (burgers and so on) and the very Danish stuff: Smørrebrød!

If in for a very Danish experience head to Restaurant Klubben (Enghavevej 4 - it has a nice garden outside but if the sun is out book a table) where you can forget everything about the "new Nordic kitchen" - this is traditional and very heavy Danish food. We love the place because it serves, what our mothers and grand mothers served us, and you have to decide yourself if you take that as a recommendation or a warning. Don't go here if you're looking for some light, modern or a salad ;-)

If you are on a budget or just want to get a very social experience go to the former Absalon Church now "Folkehuset Absalon" (Sønder Bouelvard 73) where dinner costs 50 kroner per person and is served every night at 6PM at long tables (tickets are sold from 5PM). If the weather is good people will carry the tables outside. At Fridays, it costs 100 kroner (Friday Night Delight) where tickets can be bought in advance in Absalon or at their Facebook page. You can go inside Absalon every day all week and there will be different things happening. The former church is owned by the self-made billionaire Lennart Lajboschitz who started the (Flying) Tiger shops so this is a non-profit business.

Kødbyen (The Meatpackinf District) at the end of Sønder Bouelvard near the central station isn't the cheapest place but probably the best place to go out in Copenhagen with a great atmosphere and plenty of places to get a drink or grab some food (try Magasasa, Tommis Burger Joint, Mother (pizza), Pate Pate, Kødbyens Fiskebar (this great fish restaurant got a mention in the latest edition of the Michelin Guide so you might need to reserve a table) or one of the other great places). If you are on a budget try Chicky Gril Bar and travel back to the 70's for an hour or two. Every weekend in the summer there is also Kødbyens Food Market with street kitchens.

You can go here just for a kebab or you can have a dish of their very great grilled meat. You can take the food with you or eat it in their very relaxed restaurant (no tablecloth and the television will be on) where they only serve soft drinks. Pasha used to be open to the early hours in the morning in the weekends but we don't know if they still are. If they are it's a great place to end your evening with a kebab and a coke :-)

So many places you can get thai food - this is our local favorite! We mostly use it for take away but you can eat there as well. They used to be horrible with timing (saying it's ready in 15 minutes when it actually takes 45 minutes), so I have played a lot of wordfeud on my mobile at Thai Kacha :-)

Like its "sister restaurant" Osteria 16 near the apartment they serve Italian inspired food at this raw and minimalistic decorated place. REFFEN: In the last few years "Copenhagen Street Food" at Papirøen has been copenhageners favourite place to go and eat. It was a big indoor street food market with food from all over the world. Unfortunately we write "was" because the place had to be closed down due to stupid city planning. Luckily the place WILL OPEN AGAIN IN MAY 2018 as "Reffen" at a new site a little further north at Refshalevej 167. The quality wasn't allways great but it was allways great to sit outside at the long tables just by the harbour ...and hopefully the new place will offer the same :-)

If there is still a secret place in Vesterbro this could be the one. It's an outside bar in front of a childrens church (don't ask!) so it's only for summer days. Well secret and secret on summer nights there can be dozens of people here because the place never runs out of space as people just use the park (Litauen Plads) next to it to enjoy their drinks. "90'eren" is a personal favorite. If you want to enjoy a quiet beer this is the place. The serve so called "slow beer" which is an old way of making draft beer without carbonic acid. It takes around 15 minutes to make a "slow beer" so do like the locals: Ordre a bottle beer along with your slow beer, then you have 15 minutes to drink the bottle. And if you hang around be sure to ordre a new slow beer in good time before you end one :-) This is an old place with a lot of stories being told about it. The paintings on the walls e.g was done by a decorator from the national opera who couldn't pay his bills so he had to paint the place instead ...or so the story goes at least :-)

Christian IV was king of Denmark and Norway from 1588 to 1648 and he lost a lot of battles and almost bankrupted the country, but he is beloved for the buildings and citys he build. Rundetårn in the heart of Copenhagen is one of them and a nice place to go up and enjoy the view of Copenhagen. This is a great place to go if you are into design! The mid 20th century modern design was the golden age of Danish design. It's been both a blessing and a curse for Danish designers ever since but right now some say, there is a renaissance for Danish design with new players like Hay, Normann Copenhagen, Muuto and Sofakompagniet. This is Hays flagship store right in the heart of Copenhagen and near Illum's Bolighus which is also a "must" if you love design.

If you like sweets and fancy a walk into a time capsule please visit Sømods Bolcher in Nørregade. They make (boiled) candy the same way they have done since the late 19th century and the place is still owned by the Sømod family. It's a shop AND a factory and not much have changed since they moved into Nørregade in 1932. The factory is "open" and visible from the shop and you can normally have a closer look at the production Monday to Friday at 10:15, 12:00, 13:30 and 15:00 (but check their facebook site for changes).
Getting Around
We haven't tried the white bikes of Bycyklen but it might just be a good way to get around. There are a few docking stations near the apartment. Here at Enghavevej between Enghaveparken and Enghave Plads is one of them. It's electrical bikes so take care! Check it out here: https://bycyklen.dk/en/
